When I wrote that sequence, I was thinking back to when I was a kid, and we often saw what appeared to be the full moon early in the morning on the horizon. I thought others would recognize such a memory, too. When you can see what appears to be a full moon during the early morning hours, you are seeing it a day before syzygy, or the actual alignment that is a true full moon. For several days before and after a true full moon, the moon appears full to the unaided eye. Seeing those sunrise 'full' moons vanish as daylight came up is actually a fond memory. And seeing them vanish, apparently into daylight, is what I was referring to in the story. There has to be some small flexibility allowed in any story of fiction, just for the sake of storytelling. And, as you say, it was the ending of the story that mattered most.

Hijacking this thread a bit, but I'd say anything by Geron Kees is always worth reading. I have to agree, Ivor. Geron Kees could find a way to make the phone book interesting if he were the one to write it. Another good skater story, posted at the same time as Geron's "Goofy Foot," is "Flamer Skater," a short story by Bensiamin. If you read it at the following link, scroll all the way to the bottom and look at the picture before you read the story. iomfats.org/storyshelf/hosted/bensiamin/shorts/flamer-skater.htmlI agree with the original statement quoted above. So far, everything written by Geron Kees is well worth reading.

I've been reading the Charlie Boone stories at iomfats since my last post in this thread and enjoying them hugely.

And, as you say, it was the ending of the story that mattered most. I went back to this string of comments because the other day, here in Phoenix, AZ, 6:30 or 7:00 AMish I saw the full sun rising behind me and the almost full moon setting in front of me. The rest of the sky was clear blue and cloudless. Both of them were low in their respective horizons, each enough of above their horizon line to be seen fully. After spending most of my life on the East Coast with in 5 miles of Interstate 95 between Portland, ME and Washington D C., never being able to see a horizon because of buildings or trees, my childhood memories are of having to look straight up the see the sky. The fact that I can see horizon to horizon here boggles my mind. Add to that the clear blue sky most of the time here in "The Valley of The Sun" and I get a happy feeling every time I stop to look around. Since a picture is worth a thousand words and I can't explain it any other way. Here is a screen shot of Google Earth map to show what I mean about seeing past the first mile in front of you. Starting point, on left is near my house and finishing point on right (42.34 miles away) is clearly visible from my back yard. (Except today is hazy and I can't get a decent picture.) JUST AN UPDATE, JUNE 2, 2023: It was about 07:40pm (Arizona Time) I pulled up my street and as I turn left (East) to enter my garage I saw the full moon rising in front of me and the full sun setting behind me! Amazing what you can see here with no trees or tall buildings to block views.
