Surprised you didn't put Lucian in one of those. Or did you? I need to read the story again.

Dave, is the van pictured the inspiration for Lucien's van?
I am NOT a car/van/truck person, and even less of a mechanic. But I was fascinated by the descriptions of the work you have done up through the previous post. Did you find out what else it needs to pass inspection?
Did you remember to check the windshield washer reservoir and tubes and sprayers? Those can be a pain if they mess up. Did you have to replace the spark plug wires? Are the shocks decent?
Have a great time working on it. Paul

Okay, just realized there was more than one page of comments, some of the questions were answered in the posts past page one. Sorry!
Looking forward to more stories featuring Lucien's van.

Paul, I will likely replace the shocks with Bilsteins at some point, but for now, they are serviceable. Currently it seems the distributor may be out of whack, so I will be on to that once the weather warms up. Then I will need to replace or patch the gas tank, as it has a leak much like Lucien's.

Did you get the gas tank repaired or replaced yet?

Our thaw up here in the Great Northeast has been slow. Yesterday might have been my first chance as we cracked 60 and the snow has finally melted (thanks a lot to the asshole passing around the 3 inches of snow weather warning for the weekend on Facebook!) I was down to see my mechanic last week and we did discuss the bus and the electrical issue.
I'll do one of two things with the tank. If a replacement isn't pricey, I could just replace the whole thing. If it isn't, I may grind down the bad parts with a brass wheel (non-sparking) and then fiberglass it. I haven't priced out tanks yet, so we'll have to see. Once the bus is running again, the tank will be addressed along with the damage from an accident, prior to my owning it, on the driver's side.
Then, while it's down at my mechanics, I'll try to get something going with the AC, since that bus gets pretty darn hot in the summer.

The Hall unit tests well, but the coils both seem to be out of range. Going to order a new one.

How is the 1991 Vanagon Project going lately? I hope you are making some progress, even if slow and sometimes spurty.

The Hall Sender unit tested good, but both coils I have are out of range so I need to get a new one. That's where I am right now - life has gone off the rails the last few weeks and I just haven't been able to spend any time on it.

Got a new Bosch coil. WE'll see if I can remember what plugs into what, now. Hold onto your shorts!

There is still no spark. I am looking at putting a distributor in, but in the meantime...I've acquired an '88 Wolfsburg Edition with the fold up table and jumpseat, as described in SS. It's also a manual shift. Pictures at some point.

A real car guy. Doesn't have the problem sorted out on the first one and gets another.
