I finally changed the heater motor in my Jeep because it was vibrating the dash apart. It also didn't have much of any air volume. I found out why when I pulled the heater motor out. It was 3/4 plugged with insulation along with half of the A/C evaporator which it blows thru to the heater core. Cleaned it all out and put the new blower motor in. Total nirvana. Heat and lots of airflow. Should've done this a year and a half ago.

Heat is good in the winter. Why was it plugged with insulation? Or rather, where did the insulation come from?

Not sure. No mouse crap. No mice either. It was the firewall insulation.

I'm having the same problem with my Duhkota. Blower makes a hell of a racket, but I'm not noticing a diminished air flow. Thankfully the blower just drops out of the bottom of the dash after pulling 3 screws.

That sounds much simpler than most I've seen. I recall a lady once who had an older Mercedes station wagon that she treated as a truck. When we finally got the heater box apart a desiccated mouse corpse was found. Little things get everywhere, trying to get warm no doubt.

Mine was easy too. 3 screws from the engine room and it fell out.

Things falling off your Jeep...not exactly comforting.

I'm on my way to an appointment yesterday when the alternator takes a dive. I turn around and go to my shop to confirm it and get my truck that's there. Good thing I was near when I seen the voltage fall off. Don't want this thing dead in the middle of nowhere. I also have to call the Doctors office to reschedule my appointment. I'll get to it once things stabilize.
Oh joy...

A friend mentioned taking it off and bring it to a local electrical/rebuilder here to get checked out and repaired. We'll see what this costs vs getting a new one.

Older ones you could replace the brushes in, not sure how old it has to be for that though.

See if the regulator went out or something common. My friend never got back to me if he got a junkyard unit for me or not. It might be a new unit in it's future.

Got the new alt on it a month ago. Now I can drive it again instead of it being garage art.

I need to find the electrical draw in the system. It sucks the battery dry overnight. It was new in Dec. Thing was my daily driver for a couple years. It's been sitting for 3 months or more and now it's snowed in since my hospital stay.

Since everything melted off around it, I got it fired up and drove it a few miles. Got it all dirty taking it down a gravel road. It's nice driving something with some nut behind it for a change.
