You're right, that's where Peter is from.

Because any car of prominence in one of my stories must be a VW? Unless it's a piece of junk. Or will it be prominent? Did I just see one on Facebook Marketplace that I wanted in Maine at the time I was writing this (and missed out on it) so decided to include it so it could still be 'mine'? We may never know. Quantum. It has a Holley shifter.

Just read the last chapter. I'm bummed. Wanted more. Comeuppance. The lady got her due and then some.

I thought it was a great story. ".... you see how this escalates." and "We brought Pizza." My favorite lines in the story. I'm wracking my brain trying to remember another scene or thought that I really liked. I'll remember what it was a nano-femton (0.000000000000001 of a second) after I click "Create Post."
Dave, I never mentioned that I baby sat 3 Cesium Beam Frequency Oscillator clocks for a year once upon a time. Did I? I spent three years on active duty worrying about time to the fifteenth decimal place of a second. It drove me nutz when somebody asked somebody else what time is it? And the answer would be Oh, it's about half past 3?
I'm guessing your interest in clocks is more about the mechanism and not about the accuracy though. I still cringe when the 4 digital clock displays in the kitchen don't agree, but I don't try to synchronize them any more. Some things are best left behind.

No, you didn't mention them. I don't have the patience for that, and unfortunately I haven't worked on my clocks for a few months. I love the Telechron art deco design and have become loyal to that defunct clock company. There are other clocks of the era, contemporaries that made some very attractive clocks, but they don't have the following that Telechron does - no fan websites or helpful repair tips or book - at least not that I'm aware of.

So, I suppose I'm the only one with an old radio tuned to WWV.
I have fond memories of this clock on top of my maternal grandfathers console TV.
I also remember this clock from the newspaper I worked at as a kid in the late 60's.
This is what one of the 3 clocks I babysat looked like. Not nearly as attractive as Telechrons.
FYI for curious forum readers;
WWV, based in Fort Collins, Colorado, has been transmitting one rock-steady pulse per second for more than 80 years. Its sister station, Hawaii's WWVH, has been extending the time signal across the Pacific for nearly 70 years. WWV is also the world's longest continuously-broadcasting radio station.

Telechron had a number of nautical clocks, and most of the desk clocks were ships wheel themed. The one you posted is called the Resolute and was made between 1940-42. Just over 40k of them were made. I don't think I have that one, though I did give a similar one to an old work friend after he'd gotten a boat - something he'd always wanted I gathered. If you run across one of those, I can spiff it up for you. I'll have to keep an eye out for one.

I love listening to WWV. A college roommate in the early 1970s introduced me to WWV, and I found (and still find) the second by second passing of time on WWV soothing.

... So, I suppose I'm the only one with an old radio tuned to WWV. ... I have an old boom box that was tuned to WWV the last time I remember using it, although it's been years since I turned it on. It runs on wall power or six D cells -- I don't know where the power cord has gotten itself off to, and I rarely have that many D cells in the house at the same time, so I don't know if it will ever be used again. And now that I can get the current time to (it would seem) millisecond accuracy from NIST over the web, WWV is of slightly less interest.
At one time I had a description of the details of the WWV broadcast signal that I found utterly fascinating, as a proto-nerd who couldn't build a functioning radio (or clock) if his life depended on it.

Stopped trying to remember what it was I liked so much and it came to me "He'd have given you a Tic-Tac and called it good!"

When I was at GA tonight, you posted updated chapters of this story. Was it any different from what's on your site now or before?

No. I post here for a week, then copy/paste the chapter over there. If I play the little '50 reactions' game, I still post the next one here and the old one there. This site always has the chapter first, but it's the same thing.

Awesome story, Dave. Noticed a lot of recent SS stories taking place exclusively in Binghampton. Thus far, Gwen is my favorite surprise villain. I can even see her not learning her lesson here. Kinda seems like a Karen-in-Training. I can also see her rationalizing her behavior and not seeing how she was in the wrong. After all, she did help Benji in his darkest hour, even if she did take him for a ride and extort him. Without her, very possible he'd be up a creek. Surely, she should benefit from that kindness in some way. And who does this upstart straight boy think he is, getting laid and then thinking Benji belongs to him? And then he has the nerve to push her aside. Where was he when Benji was rejected over and over again? Nowhere! But Gwen was. And this is how he repays her kindness?
Not saying that kind of thinking is correct, but I can totally see someone like her going for it.
