I know that the speed and windy jokes are actually aimed at CJ's and Wranglers but JEEP is a brand name with lots of models. I can't explain my need to defend "JEEP" but it has bugged me. I stumbled on these 2 pictures from my 2015 Cherokee Trail Hawk on the way to Idaho.
You need to click on the picture to understand and appreciate the anxiety I had just experienced. See the Garmin on the windshield? See the image in the mirror? The next image had similar data showing. I realized that in just enough time to close that screen before the nice man looked in the car.
If I ever find the short video I made of my 2017 Grand Cherokee Trail Hawk that shows the speedometer going from 0 to 122mph I'll post it. I really liked the sound in the background of the HEMI after I stood on the loud pedal.

Have you ever driven on US 93 from Kingman, AZ to South of Vegas? It's a very well maintained two lane road with no traffic on it! Sooo straight! Sooo boring!
A few miles north of Kingman I started noticing my left arm resting on the armrest in the door, left pointer and middle fingers resting on the bottom of the steering wheel. Adaptive Cruise Control on for 45 minutes at 75 miles an hour (Posted for 65)before those fingers moved the steering wheel.
North side of Vegas to Twin Falls Idaho is worse.
My Wrangler Rubicon (2dr) epitomizes the windy jokes. It is twitchy on the highway. (I haven't exceeded 65 MPH in it.) Interesting thing is after the new bumper and winch were installed the steering smoothed out. I'm wondering if the heavier bumper and winch is acting like the Tuned Mass Damper they put in skyscrapers.
Oh! For the record, I normally drive with the ACC set to the posted speed limit and my kids/friends call me Captain Slow. They didn't believe me when I told them I got a speeding ticket awhile ago. They busted out laughing when I told them it was for 21 mph in 15 MPH school zone.

I had too! Have you ever driven on US 93 from Kingman, AZ to South of Vegas? It's a very well maintained two lane road with no traffic on it! Sooo straight! Sooo boring! Nevertheless, does that mean the potential for an unforeseen situation is zero percent? Something requiring a quick response in maneuvering, sudden speed reduction or both? Something that could result in serious injury or death if that response was not successful? Would it be more likely you'd be able to respond in time at 102 mph or at 75 mph? Would you be prepared to make a safe avoidance maneuver at high speed when your fingertips had been resting lightly on the bottom of the wheel rather than gripping it at ten and two o'clock? Would the possibility of serious injury or death be more or less likely at 102 mph than at 75 mph? My advice: put on music or an audio book instead.

Neal, I think I may have made the drive but I can't be sure. When I moved from Georgia to Nevada we did come up through AZ, I think, so it's possible. I was driving a U-Haul, though, so I wasn't going to be breaking any speed limits! lol

I agree with your first paragraph. I don't agree with your advice. Especially on long boring drives. Highway Hypnosis?
That's why when I drive I focus on driving, not music or stories. I don't have a "Sound System" going when I drive. Both are distractions that lead to complacency and subsequently loss of situational awareness. In an earlier life I was a helicopter pilot and learned to keep my head up and on a swivel. During the road trip mentioned I was fully aware that I was alone and operating approximately 4,028 lbs of steel at speed. My body was relaxed but my brain was alert and focused on the vehicle and environment. The vehicle was less than year old and all it's systems were in optimal operating condition. The vehicle did not require a constant "GRIP" on the steering wheel. The weather was CAVU (Clear Air Visibility Unlimited.) Risk Assessment and Escape Maneuver Planning are a constant consideration for me as you never know what the world has in store for you.
Trust me when I say I know what being in a couple tons of metal that suddenly stops is like.
JUN 1969 Bodily injuries but no deaths resulted. (Everyday after that has been a good day.)
DEC 2015 No bodily injuries but vehicle totaled before I made the third payment.
The bulk of the trip in question was at the Posted Speed Limit (plus 10 on limited access roads.) The 102 MPH was a brief spurt while passing two triple bottom tractor trailer rigs. The two lane road was mind numbingly straight and well maintained. I could see to the horizon ahead of me. No oncoming traffic. No other roads intersecting the road I was on. I pulled out to pass and put my gas pedal to the floor to make the passing maneuver as quick as possible. Then I resumed normal speed. The 45 minute stretch was on the same two lane road and during the 45 minutes there was no other traffic coming or going.
The mirror picture was taken after I got stopped passing through a small town doing 5 over. The cop was actually very nice. I had 3 registrations in the glove box, The car, my trailer and my Polaris General. (NO. I wasn't towing the trailer during that trip.) He watched me fish through the glove box and we got started talking about the General. We bullshitted until his radio squawked and he said "Watch out for farm equipment pulling on to the road for the next 10 miles." and then left. No ticket, No Warning and never said anything about my speeding. I'm still glad I turned the Garmin off of the status display though.
The 0 to 122 was on an empty 5 lane West bound interstate near Phoenix. No other traffic, vehicle optimal, radio off. Back to normal speed after seeing what the car would do.
I've been driving legally since 1966. I have had a few speeding tickets along the way but have never caused an accident. I've been in two. In 1971 while in the right lane at the posted speed limit in the rain, I was hit by a guy who was tuning his radio on the interstate resulting in me going into a ditch at speed. The 2015 accident was me in the right lane in town crossing an intersection at the posted speed limit. She was texting and drove through the light when I T-boned her.
