Military Humour

Maybe the army sense of humour is summed up by the anecdote of the Oxbridge graduate called up for war service. On the form dealing with education etc the question ‘ which foreign languages do you speak or can read' he put hieroglyphs. The Sergeant asked him what Hieroglyphs were and he foolishly answered that there were the language of the Pharaohs. He may have regretted this when he was posted to the Faroe Islands...
