Having a nine year old is tough, I don't care what anyone says. This week he's had a great week, though, and it's been such a relief. Since sometime last summer we were looking around for a second child because kids aren't that far removed from dogs - if you have two, they'll do stuff together. The only problem is that a lot of kids that fall into our preferred age range have either been sexually abused or have violent streaks that make them inappropriate to place them with younger children.
We had a line on one, everything looked good, we were all set to move forward and meet with his treatment staff when he freaked about being placed with a father again. Any father. As you may have guessed, his dad was rather unkind to him.
So now we find ourselves going to an event next month. It is too bizarre to be believed, honestly, but what they do is bring the kids who are waiting for homes and their workers to an event so you can meet them. It's like a kiddie mall. It sounds horrible - imagine the damage they do to kids that attend a crap load of them? But we wonder, what if our kid is there? Shouldn't we go? The state won't change it because we say so. Not even our state.
So, woith mixed feelings, we'll trek out next month and look into those hopeful faces and hope we find what we're looking for.

Offering a kid in need a solid home is huge. My hat's off to you're family even if the second does fall thru. Go look and learn. You never know what you may find.

Good luck on your search. It's time.
