And yes, the video comes from an event in my own life. The horror, the horror...

Linc is in a developmental stage called the verbal period.
When children are in this stage of development, their verbal skills grow exponentially and they absorb languages like a sponge.
So- the premise isn't that far fetched.
Many military Brats that grew up in NATO schools ended up speaking French, German and English because of their exposure to it. When I got back to the US, I had a strong English accent for a couple of years (I was 4).
Sadly if you don't use it, it goes away.

Since it is established that Linc is learning French, how about a story where Lucien and Robin are babysitting Linc and they run into a French speaking person or family, and Linc is the only one who can communicate decently with them? It was already mentioned in a previous story that Lucien was taking French at school, so I don't think he'd be anywhere clueless. Having said that, thought, is it just me, or is Lucien swearing a lot more these days... Don't let him be around Linc when the swear cup is out . (Maybe that's just the way Ryan writes him). I was sort of on the fence about the new connection forming, though. I really thought Elliot and Devyn were solid together, but I guess Griffin is a pretty good fit. Just remember that Sean also knows ASL, so if Griffin wants any help getting up to speed communicating with Devyn, I'm sure Sean would make a great teacher.

I think that was actually me that had Lucien swearing like a sailor. Unfortunately (for Ryan) he'd have to write any French-themed stories as he knows the language and I do not.
That's a good point about Sean, I think I forgot about that.

That's a good point about Sean, I think I forgot about that. Someone else already pointed that out about Sean. I just can't get over Lucien as the scared, quiet, nervous little guy dreaming of Robin saving him from his first story. Maybe Robin is giving him too much confidence these days, but I'd much rather blame Alec (or even Jamie) for teaching Lucien bad language .

Thanks James. It's actually one of my favorite stories it's just that the French isn't very good.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, and the French was simply a mystery to me. That's one of the reasons I wanted it when Ryan started posting here.

I looked it up Saint Dominique up on Wikipedia, then went to You Tube and listened to Jeanine Deckers (also known as The Singing Nun) original French version, then looked for the words in English. Here is where you can find Mary Ford's version, with the English lyrics. If you hit "Show More" under the video, you can see all the words at once without having to wait for them to show up on the screen as Mary Ford sings.
The song is rather repetitive in its words.

The French was supposed to be a mystery. I wanted the reader to be as befuddled by it as poor Jason. Paul, that song is maddening!
