Do keep in mind that not everything is shown 'on camera'. Sometimes we explore things due to relevance or because it could be funny. Sometimes, something slow like this might be shown later in snippets because, well, how interested are you in reading all about how hard it is for him to not say something? I mean, initially, sure. Maybe a story's worth - after that, it gets old.
All in all I think everyone is going to be pleased with the summer's batch of stories - I know I am.

But getting back to the original post, I think Philip has an upward climb. One rarely changes all thinking and talking patterns at once. Philip will have to relearn much of how he interacts with people and how he speaks to people.
I see more hope for him, but it is possible to have relapses in the way he talks. Sensitivity and tact are usually learned in steps, not all at once.
That depends... Somehow religious extremist groups seem to have some psychopathic ability to completely change thinking patterns overnight.
Not necessarily the same scenario, but with the right force of personality, it is easy to change thinking patterns very quickly, although it is probably often the case that those changed already had those latent thought patterns and were just waiting for the right frequency to broadcast on.
Look how much of what Phil said and did was just learned behaviour from his dad.
In any case, at least the Kirkwoods and Co. will at least influencing his thought patterns in a positive way to change, so hopefully it sticks.
