I figure most of you come here to read and talk about the stories; not listen to political screeds. Amen. Double that amen.

Trace made a conscious decision to shut out anyone on Gary's side of the family, despite knowing that he may not have all the facts. Yes, he was being loyal to his mother and it's hard to push that emotion aside even when confronted with that kind of evidence, however taking it out against a huge group of people was...well, not kind. Yes, that was my reaction to, but the thing is, Trace is a kid, well, a teenager. As we all know, teenagers don't always make sense. Yes, his decision was fucked up and I didn't like how he reacted, but if one looks at it from the point of view of a hurting kid... Well, I can grant him some grace. I can grant him even more when he's confronted with his messed up behavior and does the right thing. And to be honest, how many of us adults are as quick to do the same?

So... you guys have to realize I was being almost completely facetious with the political references, and even the notion of Trace being naturally polite because he was Canadian... I figured everyone would be able to see those are complete stereotypes, and I imagined that a couple emoticons would help indicate I was not meaning those ideas to be taken concretely.
I for sure know that we are not, ever, all naturally polite.... I guess I've already proved myself not to fit that stereotype.
But I still stand by my impression that Trace wasn't really explicitly hating anyone. The story says he was naturally shy around adults, and implies that the extended family may have gone overboard in trying to put him in the spotlight.
Of course his actions and ideas were consciously though out, but they were still based on an incorrect premise to begin with, but without them, there wouldn't have been a story, and we'd have nothing else to argue about. Personalities also tend to be hard to change, and imagine if you had been told one thing all your life, and then someone suddenly told you something different, with very little concrete evidence to go on. How quickly would you accept a new reality?
If anyone did accept something like that right away, with no reservations, and no suspicions that might affect their choices and actions, then they really would be the finest example of humanity dignity.
Sorry if I annoyed anyone with the political rhetoric, it just felt humorous at the time to compare that movie to notorious political names that some of you might have heard of and might appear as typically Canadian to you.

I don't think anyone was offended, I certainly wasn't. I was just pointing out, without meaning to seem like I pointed a finger at you (I wasn't trying to) that I avoid politics by and large, here, and on the FB page because you folks don't come to me for my political views or to have political discussions.
Religion, I'm not so nice about

I liked the fact that Trace was not a "Perfect" kid. While there is lots of drama in SS it's mostly not due to the fact that people are intentionally evil toward each other. (I said mostly!) It's kind of nice to see someone come in with a chip on their shoulder and need to learn that their view of the world is skewed. The tension between what I could see of Trace's upbringing and his attitude toward Gary and his family created a an interesting plot element. It's things like this that keep Sanitaria Springs from becoming another Baysville.
Oh, and I've had to learn to keep my political opinions to myself, too. I tend to get mouthy, sometimes. I know for a fact that Ryan and I had very different opinions. Dave is right, we all come here for the stories. I go other places to get my mad on. -- John

Trace's boyfriend Jake Thayer is met in this story in the Kirkwood basement with the rest of the gang implying he is a paid up full member of the 'Family'. There are some references to part of his back story, but no explanation of how he was introduced to the group. He is mentioned in Bus Boys as a cute boy talking to Derek on the soccer field but that is all I can find. Have I missed something?

Jake has had a few potential story lines, but he hasn't had anything from his own POV. There was plenty of discussion with Ryan about what to do with him and Trace was just one. Right now things are more open and his future is uncertain because even with existing planning, it all comes down to time and if a story actually comes together. It's all well and good to have ideas, but they don't always get done. So, no, you haven't really missed anything. Between Jake Thayer's initial appearance and the events of Trace, he's begun to hang around with the crowd. Whether a story backtracks and gets his POV or if he appears going forward is up in the air at best.

Well then, I sense potential here... Perhaps I could somewhat address that and use him to fill a few gaps in my timeline. Been trying to sort out who Jon had been hanging out with since he arrived so maybe Jake's lack of established info could help there.

I had a brief plan for him, but we might be able to compare notes and have that jump start your connection with him, especially since Seth and Jon have already met.

I have an email in my box from Israfil to reply to, and was going to suggest speaking to Cynus. As I said, sometimes plans form and stories don't, so chatting is a great way to plan.

Just re-read this story today and remembered again what a fantastic writer Ryan was...and what a huge loss his passing was. :-(

Gotta say I love this one, and we're gonna miss Ryan more than ever, now...
I figured I have the right to start this thread since the story has so much Can-Con in it, especially since Vancouver is practically in my back yard.
I'm glad you made Trace real, without using any Canadian stereotypes (well not too many, anyway ), but the joke he and Griffin used on Jamie was absolutely priceless!
It's really good the Trace could find such a huge family to be part of, even people who know what he knows about losing a parent, and even the feeling of thinking he might have been unwanted. It's really great he was able to connect so well with Sean and get help being able to wrap his head around all the mysteries he's trying to sort out, and lucky guy to have a boyfriend within a week of getting to town... I bet he's going to have a pretty charmed life in his new home.
One thing I'd love to see, though, seeing who his cousin is, I'd love to see him spend a lot more time with Logan and company.
Also, in case you didn't know, Ian Tracey is the name of a fairly well known local Canadian actor... Not sure if that's where some of the character names came from, but I think it's a pretty cool parallel. Absolutely- to all of the above

I was just thinking lately, we definitely need a new Trace story.
Would be nice to see how the new relationship he found developed.
