Welcome to a new writer in the town.
Israfil brings some new and different characters with him, although two had a mention in Cynus' New Born Baristas. i suspect there is more to come, not necessarily all good.

Thanks! Cynus was kind enough to provide an entrance for Jon and Richard. Though "not all good"? Whatever do you mean? The Ellesiers are such a happy, well-adjusted family > Though yeah, in all seriousness, their adjustment to their new surroundings will be...turbulent.

The characters are interesting, with complex and thought-provoking relationship dynamics, not to mention an intriguing backstory. I'd like to see more, both about their own development and how the interaction with the SS milieu proceeds.
I love it when I get to use "milieu" in a sentence.

It's one of those fun words isn't it? And this is great to hear - it's my first serious foray into writing realistic non-fantasy fiction so I was and am more than a little nervous.

Ok, that will teach me. I posted a comment under Sight Update that should have been here. That will teach me to look before I leap. Any, Great story. Lots of drama. And I agree with Paul about "the interaction with the SS milieu." (And I think it's a cool word too.)

In response to JohninOhio's comment on site update (quoted) "Or, maybe, the SS folk will have a positive influence on him and wean him away from drink. " Oh where's the fun in that

Yes, indeed--the four characters from Newborn Baristas─ Damon, Seth, John (now Jon), and Richard─ can provide some additional cross-fertilization of people in SS. I look forward to seeing them meet some of the others SS guys. I can imagine Griffin and Devyn, and possibly Philip, being able to encourage John/Jon to act more responsibly. After all, Philip has changed a LOT since we were first introduced to his character. Yes, Philip is younger than Jon, but that isn't fatal-- he now has things to teach. Well done, Israfil.

I do hope Jon would really quit drinking. That would be quite unpleasant and nasty for a kid that's underage. Fun in that? That's an interesting concept for Jon's 'partner' or 'friends' to find exciting ways or measures to make him quit drinking. What possible ways could be humorous, yet at the same time, encouraging and allowing Jon to quit drinking? That's for ya writers to find out!

Certainly an antidote to the current collection of 'perfectly nice and normal' SS boys.

Well, I tend to avoid labels but "model citizen" is one that Geoff would be very unlikely to hold...

Certainly an antidote to the current collection of 'perfectly nice and normal' SS boys. Israfil, you know I loved the story already, since you let me read it a tad early. I think the boys are going to be a wonderful addition to the drama in the Springs. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with them. Though I am a bit concerned that my characters were just inferred to be poisonous . . .

I'm just curious, if Jon was drinking, and that was the cause of the accident, shouldn't that have been obvious to the first responders at the scene? Not to mention, the tests at the hospital would undoubtedly have included a blood test, which would have picked up any alcohol. If that really was the cause of the accident, then shouldn't be looking forward to a date with a judge, right now, instead of just being worried about being the new kid in school?

Certainly an antidote to the current collection of 'perfectly nice and normal' SS boys. Ouch. Just drawing a contrast between 'boy next door' types (SS boys to date) and 'affluenza teen' types (Ellesier brothers)... definitely guilty of stereotyping. A similar comparison is between Ehren (troubled teen) and Tris (boy next door). Ehren doesn't want to 'contaminate' Tris' world with his 'negative' influence. To readers, SS was an idealized small town universe populated by people 'uncontaminated' by the problems of the larger 'real' world. The Ellesier brothers bring in a small dose of another reality.
