I just learned that "The Mail Crew" website is now defunct and along with its demise one of my favorite stories, "Through Different Eyes" by Drake Hunter has seemingly vanished. It was a story about a nerdy kid who allowed an alien entity named Chelpa Feff-Nur to sublet space in his mind in order to save its life till the alien's home planet can mount a rescue mission. I've poked around in google but cannot find any other instances of it published elsewhere. Does anyone have any idea if it is available somewhere?

Thanks! I had considered looking there but hadn't yet. In the past I've looked for other of this genre story site at Wayback and come up short. Not sure why.

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of this story. Loved it , I'm not a huge sci-fi fan as a rule but the more I got into it the more I realised it wasn't really a sci-fi tale at all. Superbly written and very engaging - read in one sitting, til 3am when up for work at 6 kinda engaging! So thanks for recommending the excellent read, but I'm holding you responsible for my lack of sleep !!! 😊 x

Still, it does have a certain special quality, doesn't it? Not only is it riveting and well written, it's got a feel good aspect to it that I have come back to a number of times over the years just as a pick-me-up when I'm down or when I'm discouraged about humanity in general. Thanks again to member dgt224 for ferreting it out for us!

Thanks! I had considered looking there but hadn't yet. In the past I've looked for other of this genre story site at Wayback and come up short. Not sure why. For whatever reason some story sites use a robots.txt file to block automated examination of their contents; that appears to have been the case at glassonion.org. If the Wayback Machine web crawler isn't allowed in, nothing gets archived. There also appears to be a problem with sites that require the reader to accept their Terms and Conditions prior to reading. Depending on how that is done it is quite likely to prevent the crawler from accessing the story text. For example, bentandtwisted.us displays a Disclaimer page and requires the reader to click on the Accept button to access a story page. Doing so accesses the page using a link that presumably sets a flag on their server that is associated with a session ID stored in a browser cookie. I don't know, but I suspect the Wayback Machine web crawler doesn't preserve cookies, because all the bentandtwisted story links on the Wayback Machine display the Disclaimer page, and clicking on the Accept button takes you to a page that tells you that the Wayback Machine hasn't archived that page but it is available on the web. Unfortunately there appear to be lots of ways to prevent a web site from being archived, whether deliberately or otherwise.
