What an absolute DICK Ake is!! I cant tell you the amount of times iv had almost that very same argument with some religious idiot or another! If you want un-listening, un-thinking self righteous idiocy, look no further than the fundamentalist in the room! I'm really liking Shane though , I love a guy with a quick mind and a sharp tongue, cant wait for more of this - thanks again Dave ๐ x

Just read Chapter 2; what a fun character study, or characterS study, because both Shane and Parker are interesting and unconventional, each in their own ways. I'm not going to say "quirky," because we need to reserve that term for people like Alec, but as with him, what's unconventional arises organically and makes them real people. Something that Dabeagle is so good at and that I look forward to in his stories. (Not sure why I adopted the third person for him; perhaps he's saying, "I'm right here, you know."
The capper at the end was priceless, coming full circle back to the previous unexpected act!

Parker was in my head for a while and I was sending Cynus text messages with the stupid things he was saying ot me at the time. I wish I'd written them down.

I just read Chapter 2 and I'm really liking it. I love how Parker took the bull by the horns. Not just once but twice. First he asks Shane to his house and then even after Shane has to go. Many other boys would have just said I'll see you in school tomorrow. Instead he walks him home and introduces himself to his dad. It seems his dad may be sharper than Shane has given him credit. I suspect he may even already know his son is gay. I know he could mean no more than Shane is not an outdoors-man but I feel its more. He clearly knows Shane has no friends. Or at least no one he has met before.
I hope Parker can help Shane come out. I'm certain they will be good for each other. And wow, I never saw it coming. Parker is sure of himself and comfortable with his identity. He surprised Shane with that kiss. Maybe Shane's dad was looking out? It wouldn't shock me. And there is nothing wrong if he did. The first time in years his son brings someone home.

I'm thinking maybe Shane's Dad just maybe isn't quite as much of an asshole as we were led to believe, Dave is very good at writing these kind of characters, you know the ones that are perhaps not the ideal parents but not the somewhat clichรฉd evil child beating complete nutjob sorts that we often see in these kinda stories, I find these guys more believable somehow, maybe its just that they are more palatable for me. Parker - what a guy, can't wait to see what's in store for he and Shane. I do find it hard to accept , given his quirky ( iv said it) outgoing personality, that he has no/ few friends id certainly be his mate! Looking forward to more ๐

I reread the story so far and was struck by this from Parker:
"Someone I'm not exactly friends with because I don't have any."
and a bit later:
"Duh. It's what friends do."
On the surface it sounds like a contradiction: if he doesn't have any friends, how does he know what friends do? Then I decided to take it as another indication of the complexity of Parker's character. I'm even tempted to say that in many ways he's like Alec, only straight. Or is he?

Completely understand what both Paul was saying and indeed what you have inferred, Dave. I do however, and this isn't a criticism, struggle to get my head around Parker being such a loner with the outgoing personality he has , somewhat a dichotomy??? Possibly something to do with the dickhead brother he has the misfortune to share genetics with methinks x

I'm starting to wonder that too. Is Parker straight or is he afraid to come out to Shane? Maybe he is Bi or questioning? I think he may be developing a crush on Shane at the least.

That seems like such a leading comment, David. Of course I'll have to answer you with my old Navy standby, 'I can neither confirm nor deny your speculation.' Or as Ryan used to say 'You might think that; I couldn't possibly comment'.

I'm starting to wonder that too. Is Parker straight or is he afraid to come out to Shane? Maybe he is Bi or questioning? I think he may be developing a crush on Shane at the least. It seems to me that Parker, the way he's been written, is too honest - with himself and with others - to be hiding what he believes his sexuality to be, and too self-confident to not own up to whatever it happens to be. Plus I don't see him acting in a way that would hurt Shane - he's too smart and too caring. All that being said, it just makes me even more interested in seeing how all this gets played out!
