I've just done my re-read of chapter 4 and again I was struck by the complexity of the characters, in particular this time, the parents. Parker's have managed to raise one boy who shows exceptional levels of good sense, responsibility, empathy and loyalty and yet another who seems to be a borderline psychopath. One wonders why they seem to have a "Oh, that boy, I just don't know what we're going to do with him" attitude, as if his misdeeds were on a par with playing hookey and filching Farmer Brown's apples. We do have some idea of their quandry in being busy, often abstentee parents by necessity of their economic situation.
Shane's parents have also raised a boy with a good head on his shoulders but who, like Parker, also has feelings of isolation. His father, if other clues didn't reveal that in some things he could be sensible and perceptive, could easily be mistaken for a mere crackpot. Makes you wonder how his wife deals with him. At any rate, it's nice to have characters who, while out of the ordinary, are not the kind of carboard cut-out whackos or supervillains you so often see in online gay fiction.
All in all, just another aspect of this story that keeps me interested and eager to watch how it plays out.

With respect to Parker's folks; his brother is meant to be written as someone who suffered trauma of an unknown sort as a child and parents who, perhaps, may not have known what to do. They aren't going to go into those details, however, with Parker and Shane as I think most adults will keep some discussions for adults and others to include kids.

I think Parker's parents owe it to him to share at least some details of what happened to his brother. Since his brother has been mistreating him I don't think its right to keep everything from him.
I think I agree. I believe Parker is too sensitive and caring a person to lie about his sexuality. And too self confident to not be aware of what his feelings are, if he says he'not gay than we must believe him. He's also too concerned for Shane's feelings and sensitive to how he could easily hurt him.
I do hope there will be some development toward a relationship respectively for both. If not and it stays strictly a best friendship tale that is fine too. I don't think Parker has to worry about Shane. Just as he has had few friends in his past so too for Shane. He so openly admitted to Parker's parents that he considers them best friends. Even before he heard Parker's pleading yet hopeful admission.

Firstly I'm still hooked on this so thank you Dave! I'm kinda confused by Parker , don't get me wrong I think he's awesome but, he really is blurring the lines a touch between close friendship and potentially more. I had a lot of straight friends at school and none were quite that tactile (more's the pity!)I'm hoping he's straight tbh and that his and Shanes' friendship develops as just that and that they both find someone else for that little bit more.... Dave has however gone on record as saying he doesn't especially like writing straight characters so this coupled with my previous assertions leads me to the conclusion that Parker isn't as heterosexual as he may think case!!! We can but wait and see, and enjoy the story unfold. You mentioned how it is becoming a bit trying to edit, so thanks again both for the story and your perseverance x

I was happy to see another update to this story.
Oftentimes, I can't really get into a story that has multiple authors. With most stories like that, it's pretty clear which author wrote certain parts. To be honest, I can't tell who wrote what with this story...and I consider that a good thing. You guys have done an excellent job. This seems pretty seamless. Well done.
I also especially like the little things, like the recurrent mention of the dog being some demon being, guarding the gates of hell! :-)
Thanks, guys.

I based this in Samuel's universe but only I wrote the story. Sorry for the confusion.

Laugh out loud moment from Chapter 5: Shane, weighing options for extricating himself from his encounter with religidiot Ake: "It wasn't like I could outrun him, although I suppose I could try to club him with my crutches."

I was giving chapter 5 my first re-read and found myself checking out previous chapters to refresh my memory about the initial encounter with Bo the hound from hell and then gave up and re-read the whole story from the start. That just reinforced my opinion that it would wind up under my classification as a Dabeagle Classic. Parker is certainly an inspired creation in the best Dabeagle tradition. Looking forward to learning more about what makes him tick. Really interesting to see how he is affecting Shane, beyond the attraction he feels but in how the relationship is fostering his self-awareness and growth. And also seeing that it's a two-way street.

I very much like chapter 6. The story seems to gain depth with every chapter.

Thank you for chapter7. It was done very well. I wish I had read it in the afternoon instead of saving it for bedtime. Not the stuff of pleasant dreams. But I couldn't stop reading it.

Thanks for List 8. Except for a couple extra words and the paragraph that began; "I sat up straight and looked her in the eye. Moment of truth," being duplicated it was done well.
I'm sorry to see the story completed. Although I don't understand the need for detailed violence in the story, I'm sorry to see it finished. I hope there will be more of the characters in the future.

Absolutely fabulous that I got to read 2 chapters of the list in one sitting . Thank you. Amazing that Shane beat his father at the survival game, and that he will continue to fill his place in the world with pride , whilst his father is reduced to nothing but ash and memories. Sad the story has ended, but pleased that an intrepid and supportive group of friends has been formed.
