Yes, a fine start to a new SS episode. Still warming up to Jake's family. I think I need to read all their episodes again. Read them as a complete chapter to get a better feel for them.
However it was a good story and I can't wait for the conclusion. I think Jon is conflicted. He might want to date Jake but he is stuck on the stereotype of what he thinks being gay/bi would imply about him. His dad is great with how he rushed in and rescued his son. Its easy to see that he loves him very much. Good to see Trace getting some attention.

He appeared as a minor character and this is his first turn as a primary character.

I think he meant Jon's family.

Dabeagle, I see what you meant on the other thread about this story covering a lot of time and overlapping other stories. Part One obviously starts BEFORE Bus Boys, but I'm guessing Part Two covers come of the same time period of Bus Boys, due to Claire's actions in Picket Fences 1.

And the overall arc in this set will end in the late fall. The part after Picket Fences will move into the early winter months. There is ALOT written, and someone still has his part to do. *cough* Israfil *cough* :-)

How hypocritical of Claire to go on a tear about family being most important. She clearly put her growing interest in the new foster family's church and her own faith before her love for Lucien. She wasted no time in exposing his sexuality to her foster parents. Any problems in her relationship with Lucien are her own doing and Lucien owes her nothing. It shows his love for Claire that he is even attempting to reconnect after how her actions hurt him.

There's a part after 'Picket fences'? Yay!! I can't wait. I was worried that this would bring an end to SS. Loved the story otherwise, can't wait to see how things will end up for Jake. And it really was a lively chapter which unravelled the mystrey which always seems to surround the Ellesiers. Made them seem more human. And approachable. Keep up the good work guys, can't wait for the next chapter.

Not only is there a part two, there's other stories in the works too! I just need to get them to state I'm happy with.... I'm glad you're warming up to the Ellesiers - whatever else they are, they're a close knit family. I'm glad I was able to showcase some of Richard's parenting/big brother aspects here finally. He's usually able to play the voice of reason.
As to your worries, I daresay that the last story of SS would have a much more final sounding name than "Picket Fences."

"I swear, I should never have told him my brothers and I were named after kings of England."
Oops.
There have been three Richards on the throne of England, one John (of ill-starred memory), and no Geoffrey.
If the reference was to the sons of Henry II, there were five: William, Henry, Richard, Geoffrey, John. Only two reigned in England.
William died in 1156, aged 3 years.
Henry, the Young King (crowned at York in 1170 during his father's contretemps with Thomas รก Becket), died in 1183 while fighting his father.
Geoffrey, Duke of Brittany, died in 1186.
Now that I've satisfied my pedantic side, I have to say I like the tale quite well.

Excellent addition to the Sanitaria Springs group of stories! I really hope to read more about these characters.
With the first part, I was finding it pretty difficult to feel any sort of sympathy for Jon, but he managed to redeem himself by the end. I do hope he mamages to hold onto this relationship with Jake. From personal experience, I know it's difficult for some guys who don't identify as exclusively gay to embrace that side of themselves sometimes.
Now we need to find someone for Trace. (Someone always seems to be left out in this town! :-) )
