Stories with a supernatural basis are generally not my cup of tea (an exception was Dabeagle's Wayward Son because I enjoyed the quirky characters and humor) but I was drawn into Rivers from the start, in large part because it's so darn well-crafted. Well-paced, economical but evocative storytelling.
