I hope there's not another thread for this story and I missed it. I really like Sean's writing. He's creating likable and relatable characters. Jason has issues from his time on the streets after running away. Elliot seems to have issues too. Simon, the boys' dad and Jason's care-taker, even said that he thinks Jason and Elliot were just what each other needed. Let's hope they figure that out too.
Excellent start, five chapters in. Thanks to the author.

I've seen this story too, and it looks like it has great promise. There are so many ways an author can give hints to his capabilites, so many littles ways he can either screw up or shine. All I see here are reasons to keep reading. ____________________ basketball hoop

Like you said, I hope I don't screw something up, and make it all worth while. Thanks for the comments.

"There was a text message there, from Elliot: 'Please check on Jase, bro. If he's like me, he probably feels weird being alone right now.'
For me, this was a hint of your capabilities. I loved this line and the empathy it shows from Elliot. Well done!

When I think about where you're at when you read that, it was one of my more favored places to write about. If you'll notice, they constantly remind Jason he is loved, not alone, has friends and a whole support system. I'm almost repetitive about it, really - but in my mind, when I was around their age, I found things hard to accept, and the only way I finally did come to accept was with people not only repeating it, but letting me know and feel it until I did accept it as reality. This is one of those places it doesn't show by words, but shows by real action. I guess the thing is, Jason has some healing to do, and he is doing it in a different way than some people would. He has to be convinced, get rid of his self doubts as he goes along. Some days are better than others, but Elliot and Derek, that's what they're there for: help when he's down, and celebrate when he's not. Elliot is a key part of his recovery … so, in my take of everything, its all about the two of them building their bond even tighter as he heals, and discovers he isn't so alone anymore - and that he doesn't have to be so afraid. Some authors in their stories pump the fear outright, or try to build their characters without a backstory. That's okay, depending on style and everything, but I wanted to build the whole journey as the backstory, and show the little steps as both boys go along. I'm sure I may have overdone it a little, but at the same time, people seem to be enjoying it. That's all that matters to me really, you know?

I've enjoyed it so much and I know what I'd like to happen between Jason and Elliot. But I'll wait to see what develops.
