Dave, this was a very good story, although it has more serious veins embedded in it at the same time than many of the Sanitaria Springs stories.
But Sterling/Boomer brought up something which made me wonder─ Did Evelyn adopt Sean and did Sean change his name to Kirkwood? Boomer refers to Sean as Sean Kirkwood, while Sean refers to "his parents" instead of "Dad and Evelyn" as he normally has in previous stories.
I do realize that Sean has accepted that Evelyn loves him, but is the relationship official now?
The sheer variety of well-handled topics in this story (though not all in equal depth) is almost staggering. A). Multiple phases of the relationship of Sean and Asher. B). Boomer and his relationships. C). Philip having new weirdness, implied by Boomer's remarks. D). Jamie and Emily reaching a new level of relationship. E). Emily showing more desires to see some things Jamie does not understand why she wants what she says she wants. F). Sean and Jamie having another, always illuminating discussion, concerning their relationships with others. G). Sean being easily able to talk with Boomer about relationships. H). The handiness of having a coffee place besides Cafe Perk-Me-Up or Roxanne's to discuss things. (Okay, I know that is not at all a major point, but multiple talking places can be important.) I). The necessity of doing some advance [possible career] planning with potential for the future. J). Boomer pointing out how so many people have differing talents and relationship strengths. K). The connection of "The Facilitator" stories once again linked to Sanitaria Springs, and the possibility of maybe Sterling/Boomer and Bell getting together. L). More of the continuing after effects of Asher's previous life, before being adopted by the Ellis family.
And I could come up with more, with more time.
As SS continues, you show how incredibly lucky that Sean has been, landing with the Kirkwoods, and how incredibly fortunate Micah is to have landed with Alec and Sasha, and how fortunate the adoptions of Asher by the Ellis family, Lucien by the Kutsenko family, and Nik by his dads has been. You also did not sugar coat the problems the adoptive and/or foster family faces when taking in a kid.
Dave, this is a thoughtful story. I have read it three times now, and will read it more in the future, I'm sure. Thanks for writing it.
