As I was reading the story I was trying to figure out what "ferroequinology" means as that's not a word that I've ever heard before. Breaking it down into parts, I was leaning towards the study of iron horses. Imagine my surprise to find out that it has to do with trains! I'm not sure if that is the correct etiology of the word, but it makes sense.
Great story! I love the way you can make an entire story out of a few simple conversations.

Trains are called Iron Horses as a slang term :-) Good detective work!

Steve, many years ago the engines of trains were commonly called "iron horses." You are probably too young to remember that. Hence, ferro, meaning Iron, from the world ferrous, and equine. meaning horse, combined with "ology" or study, therefore ferro + equine + ology renders ferroequinology!

I just finished the episode in one session. I could not stop until "The End" ha ha. I've told you before how I love Robin and Lucien and this story was a wonderful chapter in their lives. I realize it was perhaps more a chapter of Robin's life as he was the narrator but it is so clear how central Lucien is to his happiness.
I especially loved the part near the end in which Robin in cuddling with Lucien. He asks Lucien how he envisions him? Lucien tells Robin basically he's his world, maybe his universe. I know he said the most handsome in the world, maybe the universe but he also said he was his boyfriend so I believe my view of his intent is true. Lucien was holding Robin's face and looking intently into his eyes as he said it.
Later in the kitchen as Robin is talking to his dad, he's reminded what his granddad used to say, about holding the one you love and treating them as your whole world or even universe. I found that interesting as Lucien had just said it, also his dad giving Robin his granddad's ring, saying it might make a fine engagement ring for Lucien. Nice. I also like how his dad recalled how Robin, during the fight about Lucien attending the relatives wedding, insisted he would marry Lucien. As his parents were concerned he was too obsessed and unlikely to last to marry Lucien.
I enjoyed how you used his therapy session as a springboard to include so many 'family members' in the story over his summer of self introspective exploration. He had many planned experiences to help find and define himself. And a glimpse into his future including college and his first home. But the strange thing was that with all the planning done to find a hobby outside team sports he almost figuratively collided with his first real solitary hobby, trains and model train building. I believe Robin has finally regained his emotional footing. He seems ready to fly the nest.

Really liked this one Dave , its nice to see Robin laid bare so to speak! We usually only see the super cool, chill Robbie so to see some more of his neurosis was enlightening. His attitude towards Claire, however, is entirely understandable i feel and to be honest im fairly sure id be pretty much the same all things being equal. Interesting also to see Jon with a few more rough edges rounded off, he isnt the most isntantly likable guy is he? But there are definitely parts to his personality that i find intriguing, fascinating even. Looking forwatd to seeing more from the 4 guys going to college and living alongside each other and of course Sash, Alec and Micah. Could certainly prove an interesting dynamic. The possibilities are almost endless and im sure you already have plentiful ideas swimming around for them all and i await with baited breath to see what we lucky readers have in store. Thanks for another good one Dave 😁😁x

Things change, of course, depending on what influences me, but we'll see.

I never commented on this, but I am going to say that, as a avid wannabe model railroader I highly approve of Robin's choice of hobby . It would interesting to learn it was maybe actually a life long interest that had just lain dormant most of the time?
