Ok, so, twice now we have been introduced to the overweight jogger who looks at the teens of SS with an "unmistakable hunger" in his eyes. Does this make ANYONE else feel a bit uneasy that we have an older man clearly attracted to teenaged boys (a social no-no) and running about not even bothering to hide it? Maybe it was just a simple passing... or is it something more? Does Sanataria Spring have a stalker on their hands... a potential predator. Or am I just reading into this far too much?

Do you know what i think you have a point there. Remember reading it and feeling a little uneasy on both occasions, but by the time id finished the story id pushed it to the back of my mind. Wonder if its someone we know or if its fairly harmless and just being misread by the teens?? I mean from his description Robin's a good looking kid so I'm sure id give him a second glance, not so sure about the ' unmistakable hunger ' mind you, that does indeed sound creepy.

Initially I'd say you're reading too much into it. We all have images in our minds for the appearances of these guys. When we see this with Robin, he's leaving for college in a few weeks - no longer a boy. When we first encounter this with Derrick, he's going into his senior year. Having seen some of the kids even at my local high school given I have two kids there, there are plenty that don't look like boys but young men. Whether this fellow sees them and recognizes them to be too young, or is simply enjoying the scenery seems to be what you worry about, and I'd wager the latter. I can recall leaving for work one morning about two or three years ago on my birthday and seeing a pack (5-6) young shirtless men running up my road. I took a long look. They could have been college, could have been military, could have been summer HS guys doing off season workouts. Not sure, will never know. What I do know is I said to myself 'happy birthday to me'.
What I had a bit more in mind was something that happened with me a few years ago when I was on a diet and exercising regularly. I was a fat guy out for a jog, and I passed a very handsome, very nicely built young man. No idea of his age, but I couldn't help but notice how nicely his abs and chest looked as he ran shirtless, sun reflecting from his sweaty torso. I doubt I concealed that very well. If you're going to run like that, some folks will notice more than others. I don't find anything wrong with a look - to a point. Nothing lascivious, and it should never be accompanied by a cat call or some other harassment. Someone noting someone else looks good doesn't rise to the level of concern I think some people think it should.

Fair enough that makes sense, as i said im sure id give Robin a 2nd (or 3rd) glance if im being honest! And as you imply, a young guy looking like that could just as easily be 21 as 17 so an innocent look isnt inappropriate, think it was just the wording ' unmistakable hunger ' that made me think the worst. In actual fact theres a young lad of that age moved in over the road from me and hes undeniably beautiful- nice kid too, always smiles and says good morning- and iv cast an admiring glance his way on occasion . Just hope they aren't mis-interpreted as 'unmistakable hunger!!' Thanks for taking the time to set us straight (so to speak!)

“Incredible! That they could try and humiliate me! Coffee, Roxanne! Oh! I could murder those fags!” the man grumbled loud enough for all to hear. Peter knew enough to realize the rant had nothing to do with cigarettes.
“Mr. Vernon, please calm down and watch your language.” There was an edge to Roxanne’s voice as she brusquely set a cup of coffee on the counter in front of him. “Why are you pissed, anyway?”
Vernon made a few remarks about how we dealt with them in my days at school. Keeping his eyes on , Lukas leaned across to Peter and whispered, “Beat them senseless, even when they were down, is what I heard.”
But you would take advantage of them if you could get them to fall for you. They wouldn’t say anything for fear of losing their jobs, and maybe their parents’ jobs if they also worked for you.
“Why don’t you get your haircut in Binghamton next time you go over there to cruise in the park, Mr. Vernon?”
He looked around the room. "If I hear any more about this, I’ll sue the lot of you!”
“I don’t think so, Mr. Vernon.” The light voice of the texting teen rang out. “At least, you might like to look at this first!”
The teen moved so Billy could look at the screen of his mobile, ready to jump out of the way should Billy lash out. Billy’s face changed through every color of the rainbow as he looked at the screen.
The driver and his sister then turned and cornered his son.
“What the heck did you show him?”
“Let’s just say I sent his picture to my friends. I showed him the reply from one who lives in the Lark Street area of Albany.”

Mr. Billy Vernon had Unmistakable Hunger in His Eyes, Maybe?
The grandfather of Billy Carlisle that beat Alec at school in the football team's lockerroom.
“He said the players last year hadn’t wanted any queers on the team and had tried to get rid of this kid. Then the blame for him getting beaten up was laid on my grandson, Billy Carlisle,” Vernon declaimed putting his own spin on the events at the school.
