Shirley Valentine
: A hopeless teenage crush, an older actress, and one extremely uninformed college decision.

This is an autobiographical essay by a straight writer, now in his 40s, about his part-time high school job as a stagehand and his brief infatuation with a mature actress.
No, they didn't have an affair! Nonetheless, the actress's advice had a profound affect on the writer's life.
I'm not particularly articulate. I wish I could describe this essay more cleverly.
I read the essay last night and immediately felt as if I was drawn in to the author's high school experiences and thinking. I didn't have the same experience - and I did my research about college choices a little bit more carefully. And yet - I, too can look at particular events and people who led me to the choice of my first college and the choice of the college I transferred to as a junior.
It's a well-written piece.
