A well-told story, as always. And an interesting story once the action picked up at the end of Chapter 4. Plenty of conflict for our main characters. A few interesting plot twists. I think the characters and their behavior was psychologically consistent. The only problem I had with the story, and I'm really not sure why I felt this way, is that I never really connected with any of the characters. So while the story was interesting, it didn't go that extra level Dabeagle stories usually do and create emotional involvement for me with what was happening to the characters. A well-designed story. Well executed. But unfortunately it didn't quite get all the way to "10" for me. Otoh, that may be my fault. I obviously wasn't paying really close attention when I created the initial post in this thread in the Hosted Stories section of the forum, rather than in Sanitaria Springs stories, so perhaps I should read it again and try to focus more. Thanks for another fine effort, Dave.

I appreciate your viewpoint. Reading is a subjective experience and not every story or character will impact us the same way. It's why we have favorites and things we read, enjoyed, but ultimatly don't stick with us. Maybe my next story will work better for you. Thanks for reading.

I'm sure you next story will strike a more engaging note with me. Your stories usually do. I haven't given it much thought yet, but I suspect that what I perceived as the passive response of the Drew character to some rather intolerable circumstances in the early chapters probably turned down my emotional response to him, and then his reaction to subsequent events just never really fully engaged me. While I didn't have the same reaction to the other main characters, none of them really jumped off the page for me. As you suggest, our past experiences affect our response to the world (real and fiction) around us.
My response to Drew was similar to my reaction to a another character with a similar type of personality (Andy- oddly enough- in Cy-Kun's "Oh Radio, Tell Me Everything You Know", that I am currently re-reading). So I'm sure it's more about my response to the characters' personality traits and nothing to do with the way you and Cy-Kun brought them to life. Both or you write very well. But sometimes you write about things that interest me more than others.
