This series has a lot of moving parts and a lot of things going for it. The author points us one way, and then pulls something from left field while we're distracted. The story follows two nations and the political schemes between them - nations who haven't always gotten along. The cultures are very different - think Spartan for the southern nation of Akielos and perhaps Roman for the northern nation of Vere. Damianos of Akielos turns up secretly in Vere as a slave to the crown prince, Laurent - but all is not as it seems. In this series it never is.
I found the story fun and read them all quickly, but I do feel compelled to note the repeated peril was a bit wearying at points. There are cartoons and drawings available online for this story as it has developed an ardent fan base. The characters are well developed and the cultures diverse, yet very different. The books were ordered through Barnes & Noble and should be available through your favorite bookseller.
