"Profile" by Nexis Pas
I stumbled upon this gem of a short story by accident the other day. (Long story; I was looking in the Internet Archive to see if I could find something mentioned on another discussion board.)
"Profile" is a gem.
I don't know how to describe it without spoiling the surprise. It starts out as a tale of an pleasant elderly woman reminiscing as she looks through her old clothing to donate for use as costumes for a school play.
Then "Profile" takes off in a wildly unexpected direction.
I finished the story in a few minutes and kept thinking to myself that I had just read a true treasure of a well-written short story.
I first found it as the third entry down the page at web.archive.org/web/20110428232930/http://nexispas22.blogspot.com/ .
The up-to-date URL is nexispas22.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_52.html .

Not the sort of story you would find here, of course, but well worth the read.
And if you do read it, I recommend going back and rereading the opening sentence once you've read to the end.

I just tested both links again, and both load for me with no problem, although using the archive.org address does require some patience. You might also try just going to nexispas22.blogspot.com/ and following the link to Profile in the column of links along the right-hand edge of the page. (The story at the top of that page is also pretty good. And further down the page is a line that needs a story: "He is one of those people who thinks modesty corrodes the soul.")
