I was first introduced to this author by his first novel in this series, Christopher: A Tale of Seduction. I was reading it on a flight and I'd bought it because I've always loved the name. It was hilarious. The protagonist is a drama queen named B.K. Troop who has a wild interior monologue going as he copes with the world around him.He falls madly for Christopher, who is sadly straight (though I wouldn't wish B.K On any one as a lover). I accidentally connected with the author on Facebook of all things and he's a lovely, talented person. Eventually I picked up The House Beautiful, which I had a harder time reading. B.K> Troop is, in a certain sense, like reading the novels of Sir Terry Pratchett. While I enjoy his work, it's a flavor you can't overdo or you can't appreciate it. I did finally get into the spirit of THB, and this evening finished the third book in the series Death By Sunshine where our old queen ends up in Los Angeles on a possible movie deal for his novel, Christopher.
B.K. Has many tics that make him quite funny to read, even if you'd not want to know him. He's a constant drinker of cheap wine and comments on each flavor hilariously, and I'll invent this one - it was a pauper's red that wanted to blush (hint of woodchipper, end of fleas). His running internal monologue and misunderstanding of things is quite entertaining. The books aren't expensive and the author has written a screenplay that was made into a movie, though the name escapes me. They are quirky, funny reads.
