This is a high fantasy book with a unique magic system, fully fleshed out world building and a complex story line that is compelling and satisfying. The book opens with a list of Dramatis Personae, which is usually a bad sign for me - too many names and I'm not going to remember them. The story starts right off with the mystery that is wound throughout the book and gets into action quickly. I've read many a review of books where they say it grabs you and doesn't let go - and if you like fantasy, you need to read this book.

I was slow to start with Witch King, but I'm a big fan of Martha Wells Murderbot series. They're not as murdery as the name makes them sound, they're rather idea-rich, and several people I know who don't read much science fiction found they really liked them.
Yes, I agree Witch King is very good- it made a day stuck in an airport entirely okay for me.
