Folks, there will be no update today. There was an ice storm in my area and I haven't had power in nearly 24 hours with no estimated fix time in sight. Once things have gotten back to normal, I will update the site.

As an update, power is still out 48 hours later. National Greed says 11pm tonight is the estimate for restoration. I do.not have most email access at this time.

We had an ice storm in Georgia in February, 10 years ago. If I recall correctly, it took Georgia Power about two days to get power back to my neighborhood - and I'm in a subdivision with entirely underground utilities. A couple of images from around my house: This is a pair of winged elms that ordinarily stand straight. That's my driveway they were touching - no way I was getting out until the ice melted!
And this was my neighbor's crepe myrtle, also usually much more vertically oriented. My garage door is just out of frame to the right. Backing my car out of the garage would take it through the spot where the crepe myrtle was making contact with the pavement, so the elms weren't the only thing keeping me in the house.
Those trees recovered completely. I did, however, lose one pine - it also bent under the weight of the ice, and the top third of the tree snapped off. There was no recovering from that!
Hope you've gotten power back and things are a bit saner now.
