I have tremendous respect for teachers and have my fair share of favorites who taught me both in the classroom and provided lessons for living your life. I'm also not against a prank or gentle teasing, but you have to have some sort of ability to act like an adult and be responsible about the things you do as well. We all know that kids use terms like 'fag', 'homo', 'gay', 'queer' or some variation of them to put down and stigmatize others. What makes them worse than other phrases is that they belong to a specific set, a class of insult that should fall outside the bounds of good taste. Just as words such as nigger, kike, or any other descriptive that puts down an entire class, so too do those words. It goes without saying a teacher should never use them, especially not as a prank against a child. But in Canada (I know, I guess they aren't all nice?) this teacher decided to tape a note to a students back reading 'I'm Gay' and shush the rest of the class. If this happened down south, where teachers used a special needs girl to lure another special needs boy into a bathroom - where the boy ended up raping the girl - they would react as they did with this rape; by denying any wrong doing and promoting those involved.
