Has anyone else here read Manhattan Lockdown by Paul Batista? It is an anti-terrorist thriller. That is not my usual sort of book to read, but it happened to be on sale one day for 99ยข, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I've only gotten about halfway through the book and I find myself reluctant to keep going. Oh the thriller aspect of the story is interesting; I can imagine this being made into a screenplay. But the characters don't seem very real to me. I cannot put my finger on exactly why they seem not-so-real, but that is how they strike me, and that leads to me not caring whether or not I finish the book.
One major character - an emergency room physician - is gay. He and his partner become involved in the investigation. Readers learn a lot about their relationship... and it just doesn't seem real to me.
That's why I am mentioning the book here. Many of the characters I read about here on this website (for the most part) seem to me as if they could be real people. I grow to care about the characters here, and even though I know they're fictional, I find myself wanting to read more about them. The ones in Manhattan Lockdown, not so much.
If anyone else has read it - I'd be really curious to know what you thought of it.

Is it on Amazon? I have read a set of space sci fi books, two of them, that have some tough to believe characters. The overall story kept me going, but one guy was like...really?

Yes, I found it on Amazon. Someone who likes thrillers might really enjoy it. It's not as if it is poorly written (it's not); there's just something about the characters that doesn't "pull me in" as much.
