This has no gay content, even coded. I just liked the cover and the blurb on the dust jacket. Through the series there is very, very light attraction of the hetero sort between Fletcher, the main character, and a high elf.
Fletcher's base story is one we are probably familiar with: abandoned at an early age, raised by a gruff single parent who loves him, bullied by the son of the richest man in town. After a fight sends Fletcher fleeing for his life, and in that process discovering he has the ability to summon demons, he enters an academy in the main city of Corcillum. Dwarves are in turmoil, Elves are enigmatic on the northern border and Orcs are attacking en masse from the south. All the while political intrigue among the upper classes interferes with Fletcher's new life, and the fear he'll be caught and returned to the town he's from to face unjust charges for the fight with his powerful tormentor.
This wasn't a groundbreaking read, yet I found it entertaining enough to read all three books in the Summoner series. If your local library has them, they a re nice summer adventure for the boy in you, or for a boy you may know or girl!
