More Happy than Not keeps a secret until the end. It's pretty well buried because you get bits of it without realizing it with everything going on around the main character. I sympathized with the main character and felt his fear, growing up in a poor and rough neighborhood. One thing I can't imagine, though, is how the author originally ended the book as I have a later edition with an update - and additional chapter, an epilogue if you will. The original ending would have been haunting, sad and completely turned me from this writer because I don't need more sadness in my life. Having said that, the update helps a lot and leaves you with a feeling of hope for the cast we've become familiar with. So I'd recommend this for an offbeat, gritty yet loving look a life almost misspent.
