Some people know early. If you ask a cross-section of gay people when they knew that they were gay, there is a significant group that will tell you there were signs or that they knew early, even if they didn't have the words for it. The different that they inhabit is palpable. I've tried to approach relationships from many different angles - people who knew they were gay right off, some who come to that later and others who discover bisexuality or something along that line when the right set of circumstances arise. (As a side note, I have difficulty keeping up with the many things people can identify with. I have no issue with any of them and do my best to respect them when presented, but I may not always know the terms associated with certain flavors of who someone feels they identify with the most.)
Bash Villeda, short for Sebastian, is a runner. Not just A runner, but THE runner. The kind that gets into school based on his legs as well as his grades. His mother passed away and his stepfather does his best to be there for him. But Bash has felt off for some time. A thorn he calls it, and he can't figure out what it is. He's been pushing people away and putting up with someone who is supposed to be his best friend, but doesn't seem to act like it.
Sandro Miceli, short for Alessandro, is huge and hairy - tall, strong and called the Italian Yeti at school. His home is large family chaos and he often feels lost and unwanted, unimportant. He's part of the field part of track and field, but he he also enjoys playing guitar - until he fell off his roof and broke the one he had.
Set in New Jersey, this story is very realistic about two people that find someone who hears them, who values them, and eventually loves them. It's a complex look at people and I say that as a good thing. Character development between the mains is really good, though supporting characters can be a bit stock. I don't think that would detract from enjoying the story - it didn't for me., In fact I have a story in my head and after reading this halfway I made five pages of notes. You will enjoy this one, a great read.
