Does anyone have any idea why The Tarheel Writer's site is down. He has been posting the latest installments of Rick Beck's Gulf series. Does anyone know if this series is posted anywhere else.

You can find Rick Beck's stories on awesomedude.org
There are some (don't know if all) Gulf stories listed there.

Stuff seems to be there, but nothing displays correctly. I'm seeing 404 errors for the images on the pages, and it looks like there's a problem with the CSS or something. I just loaded Rick Beck's page at www.tarheelwriter.com, and there seems to be plenty of text - it says, for instance, that 13 of 25 chapters of part six of the Gulf Series have been posted as of 12 April - but the text is all white on white, which makes it difficult to read. Looking at the page for chapter 13, it appears to be complete, but again white on white, so hard to read. I've sent an email to Tarheel Writer, much too recently for there to be any reasonable expectation of a response yet.
Oh, just saw giantk9's message. Parts one through five of the Gulf series are posted on awesomedude.org, but none of part six.

My hosting company migrated my site to a new server. I have asked them to migrate it back until these problems can be resolved. Thanks for much dgt224 for reaching out. I am beyond frustrated!
Thanks,

The Tarheel Writer web site is back on the air. With a little luck his ISP will get its act together and the site will stay up. (Jevic also noted that Rick Beck has been having computer problems, so it may be longer than usual before the next update to Gulf Series part 6 makes it to the site.)

You know, I think a situation like this is exactly why message boards are still relevant.

Looking back at my first message above, I am somewhat dismayed that I missed the cause of the white-on-white text. I spent a little time looking for CSS problems to explain the situation without success, when the answer was staring me in the face. 404 errors for the images on the page is the major clue. The Tarheel Writer web site uses a background image and white text to yield a white-on-blue overall appearance. That breaks down fairly badly when the hosting service screws up and the page is no longer able to load the background image. Not being a big fan of background images, it never occurred to me to examine that possibility. I guess we all have our blind spots, and apparently that is one of mine.
I am left wondering how his hosting service managed to screw up moving the site to a new server. It seems like that should be a simple matter of copying all of the site's directory tree, and there are certainly plenty of tools that will do that for you more or less automatically.

For what it's worth, I think background images are somewhat rare these days. I had one years ago when I was trying to have a slice of the site be dedicated to fantasy stories, but mine was a busy background that was harder to place a readable font on - not to mention the color of the font.
