It goes to show you that Lu had a lot on his mind in part 1. Part two seemed to deal with the new bitchboy, Phil. Devyn is sweet and nice. Robin had his hands full with this one. I much like.

This one should have been titled "The Perils of Robin".
Somehow they need to get Phil into counselling, or get a restraining order against him. Robin knows a judge, right...?

Don't worry about Phil.

Compared to Phil, Gavin is the soul and embodiment of enlightenment!
Some may ask if Phil could really be that self-absorbed and "cocky" and clueless. Yes, I have run into a few quite a bit like Phil. Some of them grew out of it; some did not; some improved.
I am glad to see many (if not all) of Devyn's friends learning sign language. Years ago, I tried to learn it. But I didn't have the constant motivation of a friend who was mute or deaf to keep me at it, so I did not learn. Is Jamie learning ASL as well, if only to keep up with what Sean and Teddy say?
I was glad to see Claire and Sophia in support of Lucien. Perhaps Sophia/Sophie and Austin can continue to be good influences on Claire.
Perhaps the answer on an eventual name change at marriage for Robin and Lucien could be to become Lucien (insert middle name here) Kirkwood Kutsenko and Robin (insert middle name here) Kirkwood Kutsenko. I have heard of a very few couples who combined last names without a hyphen.
Dave, what was Doug or Alice's answer to Alec about the new breakfast table? Or did they really answer?
Great story. I look forward to the next 30 or 40 (or more) in the Sanitaria Springs series.
BTW (By The Way), in the story introducing Derek, the guy who was screwing Derek's mother was called Duane. In TPOL part 1 he is called Fred. Which is it?

In TPOL part 1 he is called Fred. Which is it? 1) We haven't explored much with Teddy and Sean in terms of the ASL, or if Jamie learns it or not. 2) Claire wasn't in support of Lucien; she didn't say a word nor did she interact with Sophie. Claire doesn't go to their school and I have no plans to deal with her, at this point - but one never can tell. 3) I know from experience that hyphenating is a mouthful, some people think is pretentious, and for a lot of us tells everyone we're gay and married whether we want to or not. Given that Alec truly would be hurt if Lucien changed his name, if/whjen we get that far, at this stage I'd say they will both be Kutsenko. I'm sure Ryan and I will discuss it in detail to determine what is best for the series when that time arrives. 4) They didn't answer, but I can almost guarantee we'll hear about it again. 5) Duane/Fred...you got me. Another mistake.

Jamie really has no motivation to learn ASL. He knows Devyn and is friendly with him but they don't hang out enough that he'd feel the need to learn. Teddy's mother is deaf, not Teddy, so again, no need to learn. Sean learned a little ASL to impress a girl. As for the name thing, I think it depends on the situation at the time. Chase chose to become a Kirkwood because he'd been close to the family for years, not just to Kale. They accepted Linc and the marriage without any objections where as his own family pitched a fit. Granted, Chase's mom came around quickly but Dudley wasn't a family name he was too attached to.

Oddly, I agree now with posting this short story in two halves, it would have been too long as one really. Enjoyed it too. While I can't speak for ASL, it has been mooted as why I don't learn BSL (British Sign Language) as I'm deaf. Quite simple really - pointless, no one I know uses it. I do know a few signs and do use them as my immediate family will testify. Something that is very useful as a communication aid though is the Boogie Board. Idea was mooted to me, and my thoughts were 'why bother' but ten minutes with somebody else's showed just how useful it could be. I know Devyn has a laptop, I wonder if he's tried one of these? (Light, simple and cheap). See here

Devyn uses an iPad or cellphone when he needs to.

It's an interesting concept, someone at work has one they use for notes and stuff. I could see it as an around the house, thing. A staple used to be a notepad, and we've been using the phone, ipad or laptop - probably because we're wired to think that way.
Thanks for the suggestion!

I notice a few posts above I said "Claire" when I meant that Chloe, Derek's sister, was there for Lucien. Sorry for not writing that correctly. Chloe is being affected by Derek's interaction with the Found Family, even if only on the periphery.
Did Robin have the talk with Sean and Jamie yet about protecting Asher from Phil?

Phil's behavior just screams sexual abuse.
I don't know if this is where the plot is going but to be as sexually fixated and acting out like he is at his age?
Robin was right. This kid is a potential predator. He has learned that there aren't any rules.
He might even be dangerous to the other kids.
Abused kids learn a lot from their abusers- about manipulation, blackmail and coercion among other things.
They aren't all time bombs but some are.

You should be able to edit the original post, but I gathered right away whom you really meant.
Chloe and Derek did seem pretty close in the story that introduced them, and she was fully supportive of him, so it seems completely natural she would be there to support those connected with him without needing too much motivation.
What's odd about Phil is that warnings, and even threats of physical violence and all but being rejected by Robin, didn't work, and in fact seemed to embolden him. He did mention that their dad had a pretty cavalier and animalistic view of sex, but maybe there is something more behind his actions.
I would really think, though, that someone should definitely report his latest actions with Griffin to some sort of authority figure. I've mentioned before that these kids all seem so wise beyond their years, but still being in high school, they are still under other figures of authority, and it sort of puts it all in a vacuum environment if things like this are going on without teachers or parents noticing anything at all. Not that that doesn't happen in reality, but in the context of these particular kids being so mature for their ages, they should know the obvious steps to take.
What Phil did would most definitely violate the code of conduct of any high school, and should at least be reported to the school administrators.

Devyn uses an iPad or cellphone when he needs to. One thing I have learned is the deaf and speaking impaired will use an astonishing array of items. Anything that makes life easier basically. I have both those devices, a bluetooth enabled extension speaker that is small and fits in a pocket, a lap top, a desktop, the aforementioned Boogie Board and various notebooks dotted about the house.
