Since last November when Ryan and I started collaborating - comparing notes, sending fresh writing in the evenings and pinging each other with ideas and working through plots - well, it's been going at a pretty good clip. With his untimely passing, this is likely to change. I was nearly done with the next story, but it will not be done in time for posting this week - so there will be no SS this Sunday, barring a miracle. The following post is complete, but the one after that is partially done as well. So, what I'm saying is, I'm under the gun to finish a few things but I'm missing a major component when it comes to creative discussion. Ryan had many faults, but the one thing that made this series work was our shared love of the characters and the town. So, this is where we stand and where we might be going.
Camp - nearly complete, mine. Cookie Monster - Complete, mine Untitled Lu story - incomplete, mine Isn't it Bromantic? - Complete, Ryan Without a Trace - Complete, Ryan Possible Halloween themed story - unwritten, mine 2 Low 4 Zero - Complete, mine The Wounded Reindeer - Complete, Ryan Signing Day - Complete, Ryan
Additionally I know Cynus has a set in the works that I'm hoping will keep us moving forward. However, Cynus hasn't been enmeshed in this series as Ryan and I had been, and I can't ask or expect that of him. I don't know if more will come to me or not so I won't promise anything.

Mine is there, but don't usually involve the regular SS characters. I am working on a couple of new ones too.

I'm afraid I can't say either way, right now. The recent tragedy has affected my ability to write in ways I don't fully understand yet, but I do know Sanitaria Springs is going to be more difficult for me to focus on at the moment than other works. That doesn't mean I'm not going to make the attempt, but . . . I simply can't make promises.

My muse is a real bastard. He's shows up drunk and abusive at 3am and passes out before anything useful can be accomplished.
I chatted on facebook with Ryan about a story idea from my past last week that I think would work.
Let me play with it an send you a draft.
I'm a little intimidated taking the stage with writers as good as Master Beagle, Ryan and Sam but, I'll give it a try.

James - I'm here to help. If you're willing, and I think I know the story you spoke about, I'll do everything I can to help get you there.

If I may offer an opinion -
When someone dies, they always leave things undone. When someone dies, someone else is usually tasked with picking up those undone things and dealing with them. Often, those things must be done in a very timely way.
That's not the case here, is it? There's no calendar for Sanitaria Springs stories. No set schedule. No deadline. I bet it feels really important to keep the momentum up, that there's an obligation to Ryan and his memory to continue it, right away, and not slow down. Maybe that's part of the grieving process, maybe it's just an obligation you feel toward Ryan. Not my place to say.
I just want to say that, as a reader, I don't feel there's anything wrong with letting the series rest awhile, and I don't have any expectations of seeing new stories until you authors feel damn good and ready to pick it up again.

I'm still trying to figure the best way of doing that. I've been talking to Sam a few nights and will be speaking to James. In some ways, it's a 'strike while the iron is hot' thing. In others, yes, I do want to do things in his memory. It's complicated. There are so many ideas that won't get done - for instance, Ryan was a big comic book fan - specifically the lore of Batman. I had said to him 'hey, Griffin likes to draw. What if he did a comic book of all this friends, presented as super heroes?' He loved it and wanted to call it Junior Varsity and even teased it at the end of Saving Philip where Griffin was drawing Robin as a hero.
Another was a college spin-off. There were others, but those two were on his to do list. That's leaving out the Toy Soldiers sequel and the Star Trek thing we were playing with.
The fact is, the series will slow down. It may stop, periodically. The pace it was going almost requires folks to live in town, not just visit. It's not a criticism, it's just reality. I'm going to do what I can, as I can, and try to help others who are pitching in. I don't want it to die.

It stopped for a while, then there were stories coming out the wazoo. It's not going anywhere. Post what you have eventually and by then you'll have a new crop to post.

I have really appreciated the pace the stories appeared. I also understand that things have changed and that pace will slow or pause. I wish I were a story teller. I've considered trying my hand at stories, but seem to lack the drive to carry through. I'm willing to do what I can to help. I would be glad to volunteer to edit or do beta reading. I'm pretty good with English and dialogue and have a feel for when things don't work.
I would hate to see the Sprints end. More importantly, I want the Doghouse to succeed. The quality of writing here is exceptional. I've read at other sites where the writing was all over the place. I've actually stopped reading stories because, while the story idea was great, the execution was awful. I just wanted to take the story and rewrite it so that it sounded better. I've never felt that about Dabeagles.
If you think there's anything I can do let me know. John

I absolutely enjoy the Springs stories. But even more, this is a hard time for all of you involved. As a reader, I understand that the stories won't post as expected, and you have to know and work through when the time is right for you to post. We don't want it to die either, so just so you know, for what little it means, I'll be here whenever and however often it posts. You all have my unflagging support that way.
