So I tried making a new video today with ten writing tips - but it ran a little over 20 minutes and I figured, who's going to sit still for that? So I figured I'd break it up into a few more digestible chunks. Here is the way they'll break down, maybe, and let me know if you'd like me to talk about something specific to do with writing.
Video 1: The benefits of reading to writers. Character name selection. Using current events/songs/specifics like classic automobiles.
Video 2: Cliches, both scenes and phrases. Writing styles (1st person, 3rd person, multiple points of view). People in motion while speaking.
Video 3: Editing/Beta reading. Seeking out constructive criticism. Attitude and grammar matter.

Excellent ideas, Dave. If you'd like to collaborate on any of these, I'd be happy to offer my two cents as well.

The first video is complete and will load tonight, I hope. Cynus will be locating a digital recorder and we'll load voice files from him - if you have questions, post them here!

Inspiration to write. What to write about? What if your muse is broken?
I have a story on the fire but don't want to push it.

Great video! When I was writing "The Pastel Cowboy" the protagonist turned out with the name Zachary Alexander. Soon after I started posting it on Gay Authors, I received a comment from a guy who complained at my choice of character name because he said his name was Zach Alexander with a different last name, close but no real cigar. That's one of the problems you run into with characters names that are rather unique. I try to find more common names, it avoids complications down the line.
