Dave... this is one of the best SS stories yet. I hope see more of Micah in the future. I wish i had the talent you and the other authors have so i could add to the SS universe. I really wish someone with talent would try to pick up the huge gap that opened with Ryan's passing. I'm sure it is hard to take over someone's creations... kinda like becoming a step or adoptive parent i would imagine. I have been the step parent route so i understand it to some degree even though it wasn't a big problem in my situation. Thank you, Bobby. I'm sure Micah will be part of the overall ensemble and may even have a standalone summer story, but only time will tell for sure. As Cynus said, we were talking about that very thing and I have mentioned it in a few emails to folks that have asked for stories with Nik, Kale and others. Kale was a version of Ryan, such so that I'm not sure anyone else could really accurately write him, except as something other than the main character. Trace hasn't really popped up, but fortunately JohnInLex has taken on the task of Ty and Eric. I have ideas I sketched out for a Devyn story, a potential Nik/Micah story and another Robin and Lucien—don't roll your eyes at me.

Another great story. Sanitaria Springs has got to be one of the best out there!

Thanks for a wonderful addition to the SS universe. Alec is one of my favorite characters - too bad growing up means curbing some Alecisms.
I've come to think of SS as the gay version of Lake Wobegon. On that note, I saw something about '...a potential Nik/Micah story...' I had wondered if Micah is gay. I understand wanting to create a town like your SS but sometimes the density of gay people over stretches credibility.

I understand wanting to create a town like your SS but sometimes the density of gay people over stretches credibility. I haven't really thought much about Micah's sexuality. The trouble with this overall situation is, as I've said, I'm only interested in the gay characters stories. It may make it seem as though the straight folks don't matter, but the fact is I don't care much about them in this context, so I don't write them much. Also I should remind folks that if Columbia High has 1000 students, and ten percent are gay then that gives me 100 characters to choose from. I'm sorry if that makes it seem alittle unrealistic - and you're right that it may feel that way, absolutely - but that's been my consistent answer.

Dave, what a wonderful Sanitaria Springs story. The fear Micah expressed was almost palpable, which can only be attributed to your great writing. I definitely enjoyed all the technical stuff about fostering for my own personal reasons. I hope we can see Micah sometime in the future as he seems to be a very strong character and his interactions with Alec are just precious.

The emotions he expressed are ones I've seen firsthand, though the situation was different of course. Adapting that emotion is, I think, a big strength of the story—it's easier to write something you know or understand, at least. Thanks for the note!

I have read all of the Springs stories. One of the things that I like about them is that they are written by different authors which definitely gives a different twist to the direction the story takes. I have not paid a lot of attention to who the individual authors are to a particular portion. Then last week I read a story that you had just finished. About half way through the story I realized that you were a very good author. I was really into the story and felt as if I knew each of the characters. While reading this I once again picked up on what a good writer you are. I really appreciate the authors who share their work with us.

'Lil Bit' is the best story to come along in quite some time, and I enjoyed it tremendously. You're absolutely correct about how badly many/most Child Protection Services (I'm in Arizona) handle things, we have probably 10 kids a year who are beaten to death in their own home every year, and CPS is always involved in a half-ass manner that leaves the kids where they are when ANY idiot can see they are in danger. Fortunately, there's an investigate reported named Linda Valdez who is constantly on their case, and it's beginning to make a difference. Unfortunately, the backlog of cases and lack of qualified staff (key word here is 'qualified') makes change difficult. <sigh>
I sincerely hope there will be followups to this story, and I'm also going to start participating on this message board - sounds like there are some good people here. Thanks for letting me participate... and for writing!

Thanks for letting me participate... and for writing! Thank you and welcome to the boards! I've had a few good people but by and large the public servants mostly seem to be out to protect their asses and get on to the next step of their career. Of course, social workers are paid at about the poverty line so turnover is tremendous—they can't afford to have the job! This opens the door for the For Profit Foster care and that is a freaking nightmare. Imagine an industry making money on kids being in foster care. Anyway, I'm sure we'll see Micah again, I just don't know in what capacity.

Wow... When I looked on Sunday, the story was not up, but popped back on Wednesday. Just the thing when your not feeling too good, a bit of good fiction to get lost in.
I'd been waiting for this for a long time. Micah is going to be a handful, but with both Alex and Sasha, should now wind up on the right road. You've certainly made a rod for your own back as folk will now be wanting to see how many applecarts he overturns. I just love this sentence Sort of just how I'd imagine, and some variant of 'Micah goes to school' ought to be a story in its own right.
You'd never have a quiet life with Alex as a neighbour, but it would be a fun one. :

Maybe like having a family of howler monkeys move in. That's very odd the story didn't post for you on Sunday, it was definitely up. Micah is an amalgamation of many kids I've both met and heard about. Sometimes his intelligence is a hindrance and kids in the system often have parentified behavior, which is to say they try to act like adults far more than the average child. He's used to looking out for himself and not being a kid because it's a survival skill. For now I plan to focus on that side of him, when he appears. Thanks for the comments! I do appreciate you taking the time.

Dabeagle - I'm in the UK, so ahead of your time. Plus, although I've not proved anything, I get the feeling my ISP is caching your site. They'll never admit it, the parent organisation is a ISP, and in the days I maintained the website for a club - proved they were caching it. Didn't do any good, they just went 'la di dah cannot here you!'

Thank you for continuing this thread of the story. I have been waiting for Micah to show up. I really like how Alec understands that one of the ways to change the foster care system is from within. I also like how he was very clear with his parents about Micah being his and Sasha's responsibility. Parenting ain't always easy, it is well worth it work.
