My mom passed away last night and no, I wasn't there........Apparently she had been sick for a while, though nobody told me. I feel angry more than sad, but mostly just feel numb.
I'm taking something to help me sleep (very mild ) and will hopefully wake up about 3am to start the 12 hour drive to Ohio. (with the new car maybe 10 hours) I hope I make it all of the way up before my emotions catch up with me.

EJ I'm so sorry for your loss. All I can think of is how close to my mother I am and how I would feel...Sometimes people think it's a blessing to not tell us of illnesses or other 'bad luck' kinds of things. I think that's misguided, even though some situations we don't have much in the way of control over. I wish I could do something to ease your pain. Drive safely.

Am so sorry for your loss, My Friend. I know what it is like to lose a mother, even a mother who was far less of a mother than she should have or could have been. None of that matters. It is still a huge loss. For me it was the loss of knowing there was nothing more I could do to try to repair a badly damaged relationship. For you it may be that or something else. Whatever the case it's a loss and my heart goes out to you in empathy.
Travel safely and heal well.

I guess I needed sleep, just now getting ready to leave. Thanks all for your thoughts. I will be driving carefully, this is the first long trip in this car so I will be shooting for good MPGs not speed records. With consideration for some who post here, a link to pics of my car.
