Or, since it's baseball season, perhaps I should say what's on deck - and what's in the hole.
I'll be taking a few weeks off from work and I have some around the house things to do - lawn and garage clean out for instance. I'm sure you're more interested in the writing stuff I have to accomplish, however. So, here's what's planned for the vacation:
Final edit and adjustment for What We Found. Final Edit and order of proof copy for Wayward Son, paperback Work on a new story, one that's a bit unusual for me as it focuses on new characters in their 20s. Working title is The War of the Seven Houses.
In the meantime, Wild Heart - the Sequel to The List - starts its five week posting run this Sunday. It is still available for pre-purchase. Once we get close to the end of that run, What We Found will be available for pre-purchase as well.
Hope you're staying cool!

I see you mentioned working with new characters in their 20s.
I've been thinking for a while, now, especially with the older couples moving off to college, is there any chance for connecting characters from your older stories to Sanitaria Springs?
I'm thinking characters from classic Dabeagle stories like Long Day, Begin Anew, The Meaning of Living... Couples who, if they are still together, today, would have lots of life experience and relationship experience to share if they somehow ran into Alec in the fall in Albany.

Well, that's an interesting idea. One thing I always used to enjoy about Stephen King was the way he'd link his stories subtly as being in the same universe. Maybe some easter eggs for long time readers would be fun. An inside joke, if you will.

Dave, it would be great to see more of Corby and Declan from "The Right One" and "The Right One: Aftermath." What would be the chances? (Hint, hint.)

That was commissioned recently, and i want to finish it before depositing the money because that just seems ethical. So you can expect that fairly soon, actually.

Dave, by chance do you have some titles you could tell us about that are likely to be posted in SS by the end of the year, or by the middle of January? By that, I mean the title of the story (if you can do that without giving something away) and two or more major characters in that story?

Well, I can tell you the Corby & Declan story is called 'Everything'. A story featuring Sasha, which will include Alec and Micah with a cameo by Bobby - and possible extend to include Mattei - is untitled as of yet. I have a partially finished Robin & Lu that is still untitled. Welcome To The Family (You Poor Bastard) features the continuation of Jon and Jake. There is at least one more in that set, they are written and going through editing. Those plans may change depending on commissions, or more may be added. Eventually the ones listed here will be completed.
Additionally, a new Serial featuring Shane from 'The List' and 'Wild Heart', entitled 'Afterglow'. There will also be a second serial posting entitled either 'Candy & Kisses' or 'Crazy Little Thing'. Both will be available to read ahead! In fact Afterglow already is.

I was happily re-reading this thread, and wonder what stories might be in the pipeline. I have been reading the Jake and Jon thread. Really enjoying that. You and Israfil seem to work well together.
But if you can give any hints of more upcoming titles with a couple of characters, that would be well received (at least by me).
Any chance of Gee Whillikers sharing some additional stories with us? Or maybe the talented Geron Kees? Geron has a character called Kevin Kennedy in his short story "Untouchable" which could (potentially) be cousins with Devyn, Nate, and Dale Kennedy.... Or perhaps Riley, or his half-sister Denise, might be related to either Griffin or to Grayson's mother, or to the parents of Asher and Scott Ellis? (Hint, hint, Dave and Geron!)

I don't know that Geron looks at this board, but I can tell you I read 'Untouchable' (I don't remember why I found it) and corresponded with him. I did invite him to bring them to town - they are geographically close and I always like bringing new authors to town. SO the offer is out there!
Israfil has a few ideas he's working on - or says he is. I cannot confirm or deny this, but perhaps he will give me somthing to post before I retire or die.
I have a new commissioned SS story to be released soon entitled 'New House, Old Family' that revolves around Derek. It's only the second story from his point of view and I think it's interesting to get into his head at this point. I have started to focus on the story I mentioned before, working title is still 'War of the Seven Houses' although I do also have a workplace story also featuring older characters (compared to my normal age range). They are both serials. I will be looking to shift my registration from GoDaddy because for registering the site (.com, c.net, .org) as well as hiding my home address information from the Who Is database they want to charge me about 175.00. I think I can significantly reduce that cost. GoDaddy seems to have become bloated, especially for the things I'm needing from them. So I'll be working some serials to build up donations from people who choose to read ahead; the site renews in May.
Beyond that, there are still the partially finished SS stories listed above, which were delayed as I wrote Candy & Kisses and Ouroboros, Inc. among others. Sometimes I get distracted by an idea and it's something that isn't on this planned list. This is also true with commissioned work. I'll have to take a look in my idea file and see what stories are brewing in there and, perhaps, list them out. I wonder if a summary would whet appetites?

Dave, any thoughts on which ideas might come up over the next three to four months? Do some story ideas come from those who commission stories? (BTW, the commissioned stories I have seen so far have been really good, starting with the Zap and Travis story, then "Everything," and "New House, Old Family.") Are any new serials coming up soon?

Much of my progress was stymied by a situation at work that dragged on for a month, and the after-effects are still difficult. One might think I'd disappear into fantasy and create something, but that usually isn't the case. As a result, I've made a little progress on the fantasy story, but not as much as I'd like. I was hoping to have it ready for posting to pre-sale so I could bank that against the registration, but we'll see. In the meantime a new story has developed and I'm nearly 20 pages in to what will be a short serial, I think.
As far as commissions being inspiring, that's a yes and no question. I'm very strange about what inspires me to write. It can be a statue, picture, name or a person that starts an initial interest - which doesn't always go anywhere. Reading other works sometimes fires off ideas about how I'd have done something differently. They can inform my language and how a character will act, as a for instance.
Talking to people about characters and stories is one of the best ways to get my muse in gear. Ryan and I would banter back and forth and it was very good for getting writing done. When someone has an interest in a character, they have a passion of sorts for them and I try to match that so I can create something they will appreciate and enjoy.
So right now I plan to have this short serial appear first, and hopefully the fantasy soon afterward. The two commissioned works I have - actually there was a third - I don't know how quickly they will develop. One had to do with the request for Robin and Lucien's move to college, and as I've mentioned I have one partially finished for that - but it's odd because it has a nine page or so love scene. The reason I did that is unclear to me, as of yet. I felt moved to do so without clear motivation or planning, so I'm not sure it'll survive to make the posting.
As was brought up in another thread, I place sex scenes for a reason. In YDKM, they were lightly described and I did it that way for a reason - that it didn't advance the story. Recently in C&K I went more descriptive because I wanted to show that the respect inherent in J&B's relationship translated to the bedroom and superseded their sexual desires, while still being horny guys. I find that those details are important to me, and I think they'd be important to a teen reading that as in 'it should be like this for me. Someone should care enough not to just shove it in me'. I have used that to varying effect to show a couple's relationship, even if I mean it to be kind of funny like the table story in SS.
So yes, I plan a short serial followed by the fantasy serial, if I'm lucky. I will likely work on the commissions from there. I also have another partially completed serial that could work into the mix if the mood strikes me right - it just depends on how things outside my writing life are going.
