Dave, I think you have another winner here. I really like the first chapter!

Thank you, Paul! I hope readers enjoy it - it gets fairly dicey in this one! It's also from an adult POV, which people have asked me for.

It's really good. I read the entire thing in one sitting, so I'll hold off on comments other than to say I highly recommend buying a read-ahead so you can binge without those pesky cliffhangers.

I really like the way this is going, but I have to admit that I also feel slightly betrayed: The first time I read the name Brandon, I thought Yes! A sequel to Candy and Kisses with a happy married life. I'm thinking using the same name, again, for a new character so soon almost counts as cruel

Favorite exchange in the entire story, by the way.

Chapter 6 made me think.
First of all, I am a firm believer that sometimes bad things must happen and innocent people must suffer injustice in the name of the Greater Good of Humanity. I am talking about putting the needs of society and the betterment of Humanity (objectively) over an individual's personal needs. An example of this is giving doctors preferential medical treatment during a pandemic or police seizing a pubic or private building to serve as a command center or staging area during a crisis. That being said, I do not believe the actions of the police in their detainment of Isaac and Brendan were justified.
Sure, the police are expected to be angry if they catch a child predator. And, sure, the unwarranted force could be understandable in their rage. Their neglect of legal protocol and blatant disregard for Isaac and Brendan's Miranda Rights, however, directly place Isaac in greater peril. Assuming Brendan WAS a child predator, all evidence against him gathered during interrogation, is now completely inadmissible in a court of law and unusable in any further police action against him!
Righteous anger is one thing. I could excuse mistreatment by the police due to righteous fury, so long as I was, in the end, unharmed and the police were truly sorry. But neglect abd brutality to the point that it would render their case against me (the reason given for their abuse was they thought Brendan was a predator) is inexcusable!
The social worker is worse. She wants to cut a deal. Give Brendan Isaac for him not suing the cops. Her stated reason is bullshit. Trying to say Brendan would impede the police force's ability to nab more molesters and, therefore, impact the Greater good is bullshit. They didn't catch ANY molesters by locking an innocent man away and not allowing him to see his lawyer. Taking away the cop whose methods are ineffective won't impact their effectiveness. It might even improve it since his actions would have jeopardized any investigation.
Furthermore, she is offering Isaac as a prize to Brendan, while defending the officers by stating his setup was sketchy. I know Brendan means well... But she doesn't. If she truly cared about Isaac's welfare, she would place him with a group home temporarily, pending investigation, not dangle him like a carrot to a (from her perspective) potential threat.
So, while I believe in sacrifice in the name of greater good, I most certainly do not mean putting a child's welfare at risk... In the name of protecting the children. Doesn't fly. If there were some massive, local child-trafficking ring that Officer Assist was days away from busting and giving up Isaac to a probably-harmless man would buy him the time to do it, then sure. But there is no damage to society that will ensue should Officer Redneck go under investigation.
This deal is sketchy as hell.

Well, I certainly did NOT see coming the familial relationship between the cop and the social worker. Nice twist!

Love this ! Must admit when it first started i was a little bit meh, but the more it went on the more i wanted it to go on. The Family dynamic that is built up and the relationships built between Brandon and Isaac, Brandan and Hal and even Brandan and Kari are absolutely heartwarming, and exquisitely well writen ( so realistic i feel like im there fighting for these guys) Travis is another guy i love too , his friendship with Brandon and the banter between the 2 of them is something i recognise with a couple of my straight buddys. Big shout out also goes to Mom and Pop Brandon those guys are hella awesome! Thanks for another humdinger Dave

Travis is based on a friend of mine that I game with. He's got more than a few characteristics, but I spared everyone and left out his bad jokes.

Another great one! I do love a happy ending.
While this story is fiction, I'd imagine much of the abuse by the CPS caseworkers might have more than a ring of truth to it, as you've alluded to in the past, Dave. Maybe not to the extent of criminality like in this story, but at least in the abuse of power and uncaring attitudes.

I'v ehad experiences that leave me feeling that the best interests of the child aren't the prime motivator, but the mandate of preserving the family by propping up an unfit parent and sticking the child in an endless loop of temporary situations happens more than anyone would like to admit.

While going stir crazy with social distancing and isolation I had about run out of interesting this to do or read. LUCKILY, I found a site with some of your stories on and thought here is a new author I hadn't read yet,let give it a try.
First story I started was FAMILY and I was hooked from the beginning to the end, non-stop! Exceptionally well written and enjoyed it fully. I think I found my new favourite author.
Now am hooked on CORNERS and plan on working my way through all you stories. Thank you and keep doiong great writing and interesting stories.
Stay safe and healthy everyone!
Doug
