An excellent new Sanitaria Springs story. dabeagle.com/stories/dabeagle/sanitaria_springs/shutterbug.htmlI always enjoy seeing more of Alice and Doug Kutsenko, parents of Alec and Sasha. Without saying a lot that might spoil the story, Alice and her reaction to her last day was a lot like my reaction to the last day at my part time job back in 2017. I enjoyed the working at that location, but did not want to transition to what they wanted me to do. Her picture pursuit was well conceived. For some reason it reminded me of the first part of your short story "Mansfield" and I had to do some re-reading. (Mansfield can be found at -- dabeagle.com/stories/dabeagle/mansfield/mansfield.htmlbut I have to admit I like "Shutterbug" better.) Part of the story makes me wonder if Eileen might not be taking her meds properly. Well Done, Dave.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think the only thing linking the two was the type of pictures on the wall. In Mansfield it was in the upstairs hallway, in Shutterbug undefined. My Aunt had done the picture wall thing and I thought it was neat. I'm given to understand so many people did the same thing that it's become cliche. Regardless, it gave me a chance to further the background for Lucien/Claire and Micah while getting a deeper connection with one of the many adults who has been part of the ensemble for years.

Let me echo Paul's compliments. I'm never disappointed when I get to read a SS story.
When I first saw the title on the Facebook post, I was thinking it might be about Kale. It's been a long time since we had a story from his perspective but that's understandable since I believe he was one of Ryan's characters.
Once I got into the story, it took me a moment to place the name "Alice." But, it was great getting a story from a new perspective.
I kind of agree with the picture wall being sort of a cliche at one time. My mom had something similar. There were 9 of us kids in my family so there wasn't enough wall space in the whole house to do the traditional chronological thing so my mom put up each of our high school graduation pictures. As a new kid graduated, a picture went up. It took 15 years but she eventually finished!
Thanks for another great story.
Steve

Another great tale from our favourite town. Good to see one of the adults centre stage. Alice I have always felt to be one of the unsung heroes of the series. Always there when needed, quietly supporting Alec then taking Sasha, Lu and Micah under her wing.

Well worth the wait, Dave. A linking story to treasure, tying so many characters together, much like the picture wall accomplishes. These sorts of photographic undertakings may seem like a cliche, but they cannot be since every family's wall will be unique. And oh what a wonderful experience for any serious boyfriend to encounter!

It was an unexpected pleasure to read a Sanitaria Springs story written from a perspective other than that of the customary teen. Bravo Dab!

Thank you, gents! I was taking some pictures of my kids in October and it put the idea in my head. There are a lot of cliched ideas used for photography, but I thought this one wasn't quite so dated. There is a vocal group that enjoys getting an adult POV from time to time as well, so two birds. I'm a little surprised how much people have liked it. I felt it was shorter than the average SS, and more of a bridge or filler story to give us background and body to characters and their pasts. I placed it on Patreon with no charge. Interesting, you guys surprise me sometimes.

I felt it was shorter than the average SS, and more of a bridge or filler story to give us background and body to characters and their pasts. I doubt anyone feels short changed and if they do, they shouldn’t. The average for the canon is c12500 words and this weighs in at 13000. Admittedly more recent stories have averaged more, heading towards 17000+ . If people are interested I can add wordcount (approx) to the wiki. Are there other things people would like to see in the wiki? Putting my nerd hat away... or maybe not... Alice is the third character who likes to wield a camera. Kale looks to be going on to make a career of it. But Sasha was the first - in the original story but his interest seems to have fallen into the shadow of training as a masseur and the trials of life generally. I see a possibility for Alice to rekindle his interest or at least have some bonding moments swapping ideas and techniques.
