I really enjoyed this book. There are some things deliberately left out and questions that feel logical that aren't addressed through the telling of the story in order to reveal at the end. People sometimes do dumb things and then they get unintended consequences. Lars and Connor used to be best friends. Their mothers were best friends and continue to be, so in tune that they gave birth on the same day. But now Lars and Connor don't talk and that's where we find them when another boy asks Connor out. I thoroughly recommend this book - I completely enjoyed it except for the tension of me wanting the people I thought should be together to GET THERE! :-)

I'm rather enjoying it myself. I've been reading a lot on my Kindle account as well. Marshall Thornton's "Boystown Mysteries", Pink Video series, ad infinitum. I tend to lean toward mysteries and having lived in Chicagoland during the period, his "Boystown" series were particularly engaging. I've not really done a deep dive into what's available on Kindle, but with my knee replacement just around the corner I'm guessing that streaming video will get old pretty quick.

I can say Plateau Fracture Left Tibia. While I was recovering from it, I was in the hospital for a month and Physical Therapy for months after being discharged. During my twice daily therapy while an inpatient and my three times a week therapy after discharge I saw lots of people with knee replacements. The procedure is quite common now and all the people I saw only had one or two therapy visits. Most of them had one knee done and then the other a few months later. One very nice older guy that I met had both knees done at the same time. I saw him a month after his surgeries, and he was walking without a cane and doing fine.
I mention all this, so you'll know I do have a clue about what you are going to undergo. It is scary but is actually routine in the medical community. I'm sure you will be fine, and my thoughts are with you.

Thanks Dave, Neal! I appreciate the encouragement! Granted, I am a bit apprehensive about it, but it's surgery and a little apprehension is a given. I've watched my grandpa, grandma, sisters, mother and bro-in-law go through double knee replacements. My left knee is the one giving me fits, I'm hoping the right will hold out a while longer, but after working corrections for 29 years I doubt I'll get much more mileage from it. Mom's were bilateral in 2008, but they seem to have gotten away from doing that these days. Something about having one good leg to stand on. The rest of us have been/will be unilateral.

Walking on those hard surfaces had to have been hard on your joints. Good luck, please let us know how you make out!

Just a quick note to say I survived, just don't ask me anything definitive until my PT is finished. I'm finally at home and hopefully on the way to a full recovery. The last eleven days have been eye-opening, to say the least, as I've had a crash course in disability mobility. I've progressed to the point of walking on a cane, but I've a long way to go yet. You know it's going to be an experience when they tell you to take massive quantities of opiates prior to physical therapy, then spend the next day or so after with said limb wrapped in an ice bath. I can't wait until I get the staples out (Thursday) since I've been informed that's when the PTs really bring out their inner sadists. Stay tuned...

Wow! Please be careful and follow the Physical Therapists recommendations. It will hurt while you go through it, but you will be glad you did.

Glad to read you're in good spirits.
I had 42 staples in the surgery site, 10 more in a skin graft donor site, 3 interns on one side and two interns on the other side when my doctor told them to remove the staples. I highly suggest that you have ONLY ONE PERSON remove the staples. You'll have less chance of a race to see who can pull more staples out. When they got done with my leg, I debated telling them there were 10 more in the donor site.
Best wishes. Keep us posted.

P. S. If you're lying on your stomach head turned toward another therapy table while they manipulate your leg, and they bring in an old lady in a hospital gown. CLOSE YOUR EYES!

Best laugh I've had in a while! I have great therapists that generally keep me too preoccupied to be bothered by such 'distractions'. One thing my career taught me is how to block everything else out to concentrate on the task at hand.

Walking on those hard surfaces had to have been hard on your joints. Good luck, please let us know how you make out! Something I hadn't considered but I'm guessing plays into a lot of my health issues is the fact that working corrections left me with a mild case of PTSD (and not from the inmates), not to mention working in a pressure cooker leads to elevated cortisol levels. Elevated cortisol levels seem to be linked to any number of health problems from what I've been able to gather.

I guess I've been a bit remiss. As far as the knee replacement is concerned it seems all my neighbors are jealous as I'm moving better than I ever have since moving here and I can almost keep up when my Min Pin goes into "possessed demon" attack mode. Rehab went quickly and without a hitch once I got going on it. Unfortunately, the day after I was released I tested positive for COVID and was down for a couple of weeks after that. While I had my yard work hired out this summer, we've been in drought status for a couple of months now and hadn't had to concern myself with it. A month or so ago I decided to try to sealcoat my driveway (about 3,300 sq. ft.) and that went well enough that I then decided to refloor my deck. Fall has arrived and I'm now busy riding around on my John Deere with a bagger cleaning up the fallen leaves. Every time I climb on it I keep getting the image of Roseanne and her 'domestic goddess' HBO special. Over the weekend I noticed my sweet gum trees have lost their leaves and in this evening's twilight I almonst decided there were still quite a lot left to fall. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be the dreaded 'gumballs', those spikey little bastards that hurt like hell when you step on them, barefooted or not. I can't recall those trees ever being so prolific. Oh well, at least the critters will be well fed. It's just cleaning the yard of them is not a little job. Oh the joys of home ownership.
